Liberal Law Professor Alan Dershowitz Slams Obama

Posted by Steve Markowitz on December 29, 2016

Since the election of Donald Trump, liberal pundits have come up with all sorts of excuses for the outcome. At best they look to voter apathy on the Left. More troubling excuses include racism, sexism, homophobia, etc., the “deplorables” according to Hillary Clinton. These head-in-the-sand excuses ignore the weakness of candidate Hillary Clinton and the difficult economic state many Americans find themselves in, which as not improved under Obama’s Presidency.

The excuse-making machine on the Left has ignored the fact that many liberals are displeased with the Obama Presidency. Many expressed this dissatisfaction by supporting Socialist Bernie Sanders during the Democratic primary. Others have come out more recently with President Obama throwing Israel under the bus.

Last week the United Nations held a vote that basically blames Israel for the stalled Middle East peace process. While hidden behind the narrative that the vote was about Israeli settlements in the West Bank, the vote was a much more general combination of Israel. Such anti-Israeli votes in the Security Council have become commonplace in recent decades. However, votes the United States has historically used its veto power to block them. Incredibly, this lame-duck president in his last three weeks of office went against American policy back by both Republicans and Democrats and abstained, allowing the condemning of Israel to pass.

The outcry against Obama’s decision has been crosses political parties with many prominent Democrats coming out quite vocally in opposition. One example is Alan Dershowitz, a retired Harvard Law school professor who has been a lifetime Democrat and supporter of Barack Obama. His comments, included in the videos below, include:

He defined the president’s handling of the resolution as a “bait and switch”:

He pulled a bait and switch. He said to the American public ‘Oh this is all about the settlements deep in the West Bank’ and yet he allowed his representative to the U.N. to abstain, which is really for, a resolution that says Jews can’t pray at the Western Wall. Jews can’t live in the Jewish quarter where they’ve lived for thousands of years. And he’s gonna say ‘Whoops. I didn’t mean that.’ Well, read the resolution. You’re a lawyer. You went to Harvard Law School.”

Dershowitz went on to call Obama one of the worst presidents ever on foreign policy. Strong words from a liberal Democrat!

While this Blogger agrees with Dershowitz’s comments, the good Professor and others from intellectual Left bear responsibility for Obama’s policies and duplicity. It was known before Obama’s first election that he held questionable/radical political views and had contacts with some shady characters including Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Bill Ayres of Weather Underground fame and others. Many on the Left made excuses for these associations, giving Obama a pass. Now, as Rev. Wright once so infamously said: “the chickens have come home to roost”.

Two African-Americans Debate Ferguson

Posted by Steve Markowitz on December 1, 2014

Often the narrative created by some on the Left and the mainstream media is that the debate on the Ferguson tragedy that began with the shooting of Michael Brown by a police officer is only a racial issue.  This narrative insinuates that white Americans view the events through one lens, with black Americans in other.  This is a false narrative.  There are many white Americans who believe that Michael Brown was racially profiled and conversely African-Americans who are more focused on crime and criminal behavior within their communities.

This past Sunday CNN held a conversation with two African-Americans on its “Reliable Sources” concerning Ferguson.  Presenting one side of the argument was left-leaning Elon James White of “This Week in Blackness.”  On the other was right-leaning Crystal Wright of Conservative Black Chick.  Irrespective of one’s position on Ferguson and race relations, the conversation between White and Wright is the type required to have a truly open discussion on the complex issue of race in America.

Obama Finds Religion

Posted by Steve Markowitz on February 4, 2012

Here are the words of a famous American politician spoke at last week:

  • “But I also do it because I know that far too many neighbors in our country have been hurt and treated unfairly over the last few years, and I believe in God’s command to ‘love thy neighbor as thyself.'”
  • “And I think to myself, if I’m willing to give something up as somebody who’s been extraordinarily blessed, and give up some of the tax breaks that I enjoy, I actually think that’s going to make economic sense.  But for me as a Christian, it also coincides with Jesus’s teaching that ‘for unto whom much is given, much shall be required.”
  • “But for me as a Christian, it also coincides with Jesus’ teaching that, for unto whom much is given, much shall be required“.
  • “It’s not just about strengthening alliances or promoting democratic values or projecting American leadership around the world, although it does all those things and it will make us safer and more secure.  It’s also about the biblical call to care for the least of these, for the poor, for those at the margins of our society; to answer the responsibility we’re given in Proverbs to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute.”

Who said these words?  A “Right-wing Christian”?  Newt the Salamander?  Sanatorium?  Romneyous?  Billy Graham?  No, it was President Barack Obama at this week’s National Prayer Breakfast.  Seems the President and others from the radical Left have found God and using religion for political gain.

Imagine how the news media would have reacted if it had been one of the Republican presidential candidates who dared mention his religious beliefs?  Given these words were spoken by one of their own, the Atheist Left gave the President yet another pass, an extension of the one given Obama for his 20 year association with the racist Pastor Wright.

The Progressive’s unwillingness to treat those on the Left and Right equally when it comes to the subject of religion once again shows their disingenuous behavior.  Like the women’s movement that only protects women with liberal political leanings, the Atheist Left only complains about religion when it belongs to those who harbor differing political philosophies.

Liberal Thomas Tells Jews to Go Back to Germany & Poland

Posted by Steve Markowitz on June 5, 2010

Over decades Progressives on the Left have drifted towards an anti-Israel and sometimes anti-Semitic positions.  They have excused the actions of anti-Semites within their circle including the likes of Jesse Jackson, Reverend Wright and Luis Farrakhan.  The mainstream Left has camouflaged these attitudes, but some are now coming out of the closet.  One unabashed “proud to be a liberal” Helen Thomas this week said publicly what many Progressives feel about Israel and Jews, as captured on the video below.

Over the years the Left has produced a narrative that racism and anti-Semitism comes from the Right.  While this was the case decades ago, recent indications prove otherwise.  Progressives created another narrative with “soft racisms” that indicates certain groups of people just can’t make it without the governmental assistance and have then made them wards of the state.  Now we have plan old fashion anti-Semitism going public with the latest example coming from Leftist icon Helen Thomas who stated outside the White House:

Reporter’s question:  Any comments on Israel?

Thomas’s answer:  “Tell them to get the hell out of Palestine.”

Reporter’s question:  Where should they go?

Thomas’s answer:  “They [Jews in Israel] should go home…. To Poland, Germany.”

Thomas’s comments are not only anti-Semantic, but more importantly instructive as they publically state the real intent of the Palestinians and many of their Progressive allies.  Unlike their publically stated position of a “two-state solution”, they do not accept Israel’s right to exist, period.  The Left has refused to call the Palestinians on this, either because they agree with the position or willful dumbness.

We can expect many on the Left to come out with excuses for Ms. Thomas’s rant.  Some will blame her age, others will parse her words.  That will not change the fact that she is an anti-Semite.  While the Left has shown zero tolerance for racism coming from the Right, they constantly have given passes to those on the Left.  Those that give such passes are they themselves guilty of racism.

Anthony Van Jones – President Obama’s “Green Jobs” Czar

Posted by Steve Markowitz on September 3, 2009

President Obama has appointed over 30 independent advisers known as “Czars”.  Why the need for these Czars?  Isn’t that what the Cabinet positions are for?  However, unlike Cabinet members, Czars are not subject to Congressional approval.

van jonesSince Czars do not require Congressional approval, their vetting is totally in the White House’s prevue and this is coming back to haunt President Obama.  “Green Jobs” Czar, Anthony Van Jones, has baggage that would not have passed Congressional scrutiny that includes:

  • Jones was arrested following the Rodney King verdict.  During his jail term, according to Van Jones, “I met all these young radical people of color – I mean really radical, communists and anarchists.  And it was like, ‘This is what I need to be a part of,'”  (2005 East Bay Express interview.)
  • Also in the East Bay Express interview, Van Jones indicated that after jail, he stayed in San Francisco and for 10 years worked with many people he met in jail.  He also indicated: “I was a communist.”
  • Van Jones became associated with a group called “Standing Together to Organize a Revolutionary Movement ” (STORM), committed to Marxist and Leninist ideas.
  • Van Jones became a radical environmentalist and has pointed the finger at “white polluters and the white environmentalists” for “steering poison” to minority communities.
  • After the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Centers, Van Jones joined the “911 truther” movement that placed blame for the 9/11 attacks on the Bush administration.

Van Jones was more recently caught on tape publicly called Republicans “assholes”.  So much for the President’s call for bipartisanship.  After getting caught, Van Jones apologized for his remarks and stated “that they do not reflect the views of this administration”.

President Obama’s appointment of Van Jones offers two possibilities.  Either the President did not properly vet Van Jones or he agrees with Van Jones’ views.  If this was indeed a mistake, then the President should immediately fire Van Jones.  But the President remains silent.
