Iranians Building Missile Base in Venezuela

Posted by Steve Markowitz on May 19, 2011

The German newspaper Die Welt last week reported that the Iranians are building a missile base in Hugo Chavez’s Venezuela.  The launch pads are being prepared for medium range missiles that could be launched from the Paraguaná Peninsula.  Die Welt also reported that there is a secret agreement between Venezuela and Iran for the Chavez government to fire missiles at Iran’s enemies should Iran face any military strikes.

The missiles themselves are of little threat to the United States.  Should America decide to take them out it could be done quickly and with little effort.  However, the symbolism behind this aggressive Iranian act is significant.  Here, the Iranian Mullahs are rubbing Obama’s face in the “mud” clearly showing disdain for the President and the United States.  They may also hope that a potential missile threat from South America could somehow take the pressure off their illegitimate regime.

Whatever the Iranians intentions are, it is clear that President Obama’s attempted charm offensive towards the Muslim world initiated soon after entering office has been a dismal failure.  The war in Afghanistan is no better than when he entered office and America’s relations with the Pakistanis are at an all-time low.  The Arab Middle East is in turmoil with a stalemate in the Libyan war and protesters being butchered in Syrian by Assad.  In fact the only success Obama can claim in this entire region is the hit he ordered on Osama bin Laden.

Sort of makes one yearn for the good-old days with George W. Bush.

Bin Laden Hides Behind a Woman in his last Moments

Posted by Steve Markowitz on May 3, 2011

Osama Bin Laden has been removed from this earth.  The information coming out as to how he died says much about the man who claimed for so many years to desire Martyrdom.   It turns out he lied.  Yes, Obama was killed by the infidels, as he predicted.  However, it was not as a warrior, but as a
coward like so many thugs that preceded him.

In a White House briefing Monday, counterterrorism advisor John Brennan described some of bin Laden’s end days.  He lived in a custom-built $1 million mansion in Abbottabad, not far from of Islamabad, Pakistan.  As the Navy SEALS prepared to send him to his just reward, bin Laden used his young wife to serve as his human shield.  How fitting for bin Laden to die as a coward and then to end up as fish food.

There is the potential for a signficant benefit to the cowardly manner in which bin Laden lived for the past 10 years and then died.  It once again showed the world, and more specifically the Muslim community, the true nature of Jihadist leaders.  Their cowardly behaviour might make future suicide bombers hesitate when these folks offer them martyrdom in return for their lives and those they would take with them.

United Nation’s and Muslim World’s Silence on Syrian Massacres is Inexcusable

Posted by Steve Markowitz on April 25, 2011

Hundreds of innocents Syrians have been murdered and continue to be killed by the regime of Bashar Assad.  Yet the United Nations, Muslim countries and yes most Western countries, remain silent.  Why?

Before answering this question let’s go back a little less than a year ago.  In late May the Israeli Defense Force stopped some ships from delivery supplies to Hamas in Gaza.  As they boarded one of the vessels, a scuffle ensued and nine on board were killed.  As the video below shows, the Israelis’ claim that their soldiers acted in self-defense is a credible one.  Still, the world screamed for answers with many Muslim countries and the United Nations going on the offensive.

  • On May 31, 2010, the UN Security Council demanded a probe into the Israeli attack.  The matter was so pressing that the Security Council, which was on their spring holiday held an emergency session that called for a “prompt, impartial, credible, transparent” investigation into the incident.
  • Ban Ki Moon, the UN Secretary-General, demanded that Israel explain its use of “disproportionate force”.
  • Riyad Mansour, the Palestinian UN observer, called the attack a “war crime”.
  • Palestinian Prime Minister, Mahmoud Abbas, described the incident as a “massacre”.
  • The European Union condemned the violence, demanding an impartial inquiry and EU governments summoned Israeli Ambassadors.

Those that are now silent on the ongoing Syrian massacres, especially those from Muslim countries, show a perverse view on how they value human life.  To them, the nine killed on a ship with anti-Israeli intent represents “disproportionate force”, a “war crime” and a massacre”.  As for the hundreds dying at the hands of Syrian dictator Bashar Assad, their blood seems unworthy of support from their Muslim brothers, the Progressive United Nations, or most of the Western world including the United States (see video below).  Shame on all of us.

Gates Says U.S. Lacks Strategy to Curb Iran’s Nuclear Drive

Posted by Steve Markowitz on April 17, 2010

The New York Times has just posted a disturbing “Breaking News Alert” report that states:

“Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates has warned in a secret three-page memorandum to top White House officials that the United States does not have an effective long-range policy for dealing with Iran’s steady progress toward nuclear capability, according to government officials familiar with the document.” (Emphasis added.)

Why doesn’t the President have a plan for dealing with Iran at this late date?  This seems to match his history of voting “Present” so often while a State Senator in Illinois.  Well Mr. President, this is no longer the minor leagues!

The current situation with Iran is additional proof that President Obama’s charm offensive with Iran and the greater Muslim world has met with total failure.  While “words matter”, in foreign policy actions speak louder.

Now, we have a President, who is perceived weak by our adversaries, having to deal with the potential of a nuclear Iran.  We can only hope for an internal revolution to stop the world from having to deal with a catastrophic situation.  We can also hope that a new administration will be elected before the crackpot Mullahs in Iran get access to this WMD.

The Obama Administration has shown more concern with our ally, Israel, building a few homes in a land in which they live than the Iranians building nuclear weapons.  It is little wonder that the Iranians show no concern about the West’s reaction to their dangerous course of action.
