Bill Maher Challenges Liberals on Free Speech

Posted by Steve Markowitz on February 10, 2017

Comedian Bill Maher is a star on cable TV. He is also an unapologetic liberal espousing Progressive causes through humor. That has not stopped Maher from criticizing the Left on significant issues affecting society.

Maher, an atheist, has been especially critical of Islam and its penchant for violence. He has also been critical of the Left’s unwillingness to honor what should be a backbone of the movement, free speech. In a recent show Maher said: “Look, I’m not against free speech. Believe me. I’ve been a longtime critic of colleges shutting people up. That is a problem on the left that we need to deal with very much so” and “Free speech should be something we (liberals) own.”

Maher’s dressing down the Left on free-speech came after recent riots at the University of California Berkeley campus. That supposed bastion of free speech rioted in an effort to stop right-leaning provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos from speaking on campus.

In an attempt to make excuses for inexcusable behavior, Leftists and their supporters in the mainstream media would define the burning and destruction of property at UC Berkeley as a “protest”. Such behavior has in the past been called fascism.

Bill Maher & Congresswoman Gabbard Chastise Obama on Response to Radical Islam

Posted by Steve Markowitz on November 1, 2015

President Obama and others on the extreme Left either refused to recognize or refuse to define the most challenge America faces, which is from radical Islam.  Examples include the terrorist attack that resulted in the killing of American soldiers at Fort Hood, Texas being called “workplace violence”.  Also, when a terrorist attack occurs in the name of Islam, Obama refuses to even use an explanatory phrase such as “radical Islam” or “Islamic extremists”, instead using a more generic term such as “violent extremists”.  This head-in-the-sand approach is outrageous on its face and is hard to justify using any form of reasonable logic.  However, the fact that radical Islam continues to grow during the presidency of Barack Obama shows it to be counterproductive.

Independents and Republicans are not the only Americans concerned with the dangers posed to the Country from Radical Islam.  There is a growing number of Democrats and liberals voicing concern, as exemplified in the video below with ultra-liberal Bill Maher and Democratic Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii during which Maher concludes rhetorically: “I don’t know why we can’t call out this stuff for what it is”.

It takes a special kind of politician to get staunch Republicans and Bill Maher to agree on anything substantive.  Barack Obama is a special type of president.

Liberals Blaming the Victim

Posted by Steve Markowitz on May 17, 2015

Liberals often use victimhood as a centerpiece for their philosophies and policies.  Whether it be based on one’s sex, skin color or sexual orientation, Liberals find victims.  There are exceptions to Liberals focus on victims if it relates to political correctness with the contemporary main benefactor of that anomaly being Radical Islam.

On Friday unabashed Liberal, Bill Maher, took Liberals to task for giving Radical Islam a pass during an interview with Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a former follower of Islam who has become a champion of women’s rights.  When asked by Maher about the Left’s very on liberal approach to Radical Islam, Ali said: “I say to them that the cancer of Islamic extremism is an assault on liberalism, on liberal ideas.

The video below should be shown on every college campus.  However, that would open up the colleges to intellectual debate, which is no longer tolerated by the Left.

Liberals Bill Maher and Michael Moore Question Liberal Logic

Posted by Steve Markowitz on September 15, 2014

The first decade of this new century brought pronounced problems, both internationally and domestically, for the United States. On the international front we had the 9/11 attacks, North Korean atomic bomb tests, Iran marching towards nuclear weapons, and more recently what started as the Arab Spring has evolved into civil wars in Syria and Iraq and still strengthening of radical Islam.

Domestically, the various bubbles of the 1990s turned into an economic meltdown of 2008. That has been followed by the most anemic recovery since the Great Depression.  In both the 2008 and 2012 presidential elections, Liberals blamed Republicans and right of center policies for these difficulties.  That dog no longer hunts.

At the end of six years of an ultra-Leftist agenda promoted by Barack Obama, the challenges facing the United States is even greater on the international front and remain challenging domestically. With these realities have the blame game no longer no longer works for President Obama.  Instead, it has shown the fallacies of Progressive and interventionist policies of not only the current administration, but also similar policies of preceding presidents.

Some on the Left are beginning to question the policies of Barack Obama and the politically correct agenda promoted by Progressives. Bill Maher is unapologetic Leftist and atheist.  During a recent interview with PBS’s Charlie Rose, Rose attempted to spew the politically correct proposition that Islam is currently no more violent than other religions.  Maher would have none of this and took Rose to task , as included the video below.

Just as shocking, ultra-Leftist Michael Moore took Obama to task for his lack of accomplishments. While it is likely that Moore wants Obama to implement even more Leftist/socialist policies, it is apparent that he questions Obama’s executive skills.

The fact that Bill Maher and Michael Moore are dissing this liberal president and/or the political correctness mantra of today is an indicator that there is political change coming at the upcoming midterm elections. However, while the Republicans are likely to take control the Senate they have shown the inability to lead or create cohesive policies.  The Country is devoid of true leadership in either political party.

Comedian Bill Maher Calls Islam on Violence in Tweet

Posted by Steve Markowitz on August 21, 2014

Comedian Bill Maher is an unapologetic Leftist and atheist.  He now has one thing in common with Pope Francis; both have called Islam on the violence emanating from too many followers of that religion.  Maher’s recent tweet follows:

Rachel Maddow Squirms on Christie Coverage

Posted by Steve Markowitz on February 23, 2014

MSNBC is unapologetic in its backing of Democratic and Leftist politicians.  Their bias has even caused Progressive Bill Maher to question fellow Leftist Rachel Maddow on the network’s over-the-top coverage of the Chris Christie New Jersey lane closing scandal.  It is entertaining to watch this Maddow squirm in the Maher interview.

Bill Maher Calls Left on Obama’s Lie

Posted by Steve Markowitz on November 2, 2013

While TV comedian/personality Bill Maher is unapologetic hard Leftist, he is honorable enough to call out fellow Progressives on blatant lies.  On Friday’s HBO’s Real Time, Maher hosted three fellow Leftists including DNC Chairperson Debbie Wasserman Schultz and movie director Rob Reiner.

During Friday’s discussion, not surprisingly, Maher got to the topic of disastrous implementation of Obamacare and President Obama’s lies to the American people.  An Obamacare supporter, Maher questioned whether a lie is justified, even if for a good cause.

Wasserman Schultz took umbrage and said of Obama’s broken promise that all Americans would be able to keep their insurance if they liked it: “It was not a lie, let’s just be very clear.  When the president and myself and every other Democrat talked about that if you like your health care you can keep it, that was referring to the overwhelming majority of Americans who had health care … and in fact, what the reality of Obamacare is, not only are they able to keep their health care, but it is very likely going to cost less and have better benefits.”

Maher did not leave Wasserman Schultz off the hook responding: “Some people can’t.  Come on, let’s be honest. Obamacare says basically if you have a really crappy plan, you can’t keep it. That’s the truth.  To me, that is a lie.”

A small correction to Mr. Maher’s comment; it was not merely a lie to you.  It was a lie to all Americans, one that was required to get the very controversial Obamacare legislation passed by a very narrow margin and without one single Republican vote.  It was a lie required to help Barack Obama’s election campaign for his second term.

Rob Reiner was unapologetic and spouted Leftist talking points that it doesn’t matter whether Obama lied or not and then incredibly blamed Republicans for Obamacare’s current problems.  These apologists have no shame and they have no morality.

While it is troubling that President Obama so blatantly lied about an issue as important as one that will likely lead to nationalization nationalizing the Country’s healthcare system, it is not unusual for politicians, even one that promised hope and change.  More disturbing is that so many Leftists are willing to accept a lie to further their political agenda.  This slippery slope has historically led to more troubling consequences in democracies.

Bill Maher calls African-American Brain Surgeon “Dumbass”

Posted by Steve Markowitz on July 23, 2013

Bill Maher hosts HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher”.  He is one of the high-priests of the new religion of Progressive Politics.  During last Friday’s show Maher went on the attack of African-American surgeon, Dr. Ben Carson.  It is interesting to compare the credentials of both gentlemen, starting with Carson:

  • Carson was raised by a single and poor mother in inner-city Detroit.
  • He graduated from high school with honors.
  • Undergraduate degree was in psychology at Yale University.
  • Graduated University of Michigan’s school of medicine, focusing on psychiatry and neurosurgery.
  • At 33 years of age, Carson became the youngest physician to head a major division at Johns Hopkins.
  • Carson was the first surgeon to separate conjoined twins at the head.
  • Carson is a director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins, as well as a professor of neurosurgery, oncology, plastic surgery, and pediatric medicine.

Now let’s take a look at Maher’s resume:

  • Born in a well-to-do white family with his father, William Maher Sr., being an editor for NBC.
  • Graduated with a degree in English from Cornell University in 1978.
  • Appeared in comedy clubs in New York and Los Angeles.
  • Had bit roles in films and television including D.C. Cab (1983); the TV series Sara (1985); and Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death (1989).
  • Maher made stand-up appearances on The Tonight Show and Late Night with David Letterman.
  • In 1993 he began Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher.  The show was canceled in 2002 after Maher said that the United States had been more “cowardly” than the 9/11 terrorists for using cruise missiles.
  • Since 2003 Maher has hosted HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher.

So we have African-American Dr. Ben Carson, who came from poverty to become a self-made world-famous surgeon.  He has saved countless lives and served many thousands.  On the other hand we have Bill Maher, who came into this earth with a silver spoon in his mouth and his lily white.  His only claim to fame is that he makes some people laugh and others cry.  Not one life has been saved by this gentleman.  With this background, he has the gall to say of Dr. Carson:

“And he [Carson] believes the Earth is 6,000 years old, and that homosexuality is akin to bestiality, and that the Bible calls for a flat fax.  He’s half brilliant brain surgeon, half Tea Party dumbass.  He doesn’t just operate on conjoined twins, he is one.  “He’s also someone who many Republicans are encouraging to run for president in 2016, and why not.  There’s no more attractive figure in the Republican Party these days than an anti-intellectual with an advanced degree.  People like Antonin Scalia, Ted Cruz and Bobby Jindal who are accomplished scholars on the outside, and on the inside a creamy layer of Michele Bachmann.”

Maher’s attack on Carson is a disgrace.  It is typical of how white elitists treat successful African-Americans who do not ask for the plantation owner’s assistance.  It is also an example of what serves for intellectual discussion on the Left.  Instead of addressing issues, the Left attacks any who dares to disagree with their positions and responds with mudslinging and intellectual bigotry.  If those who disagree with the Left’s neo-religion happen to have darker skin or be female, the attacks are especially gruesome.  Their new fanaticism has dangerous similarities to fascism.

Bill Maher Cracks Another Racist Joke

Posted by Steve Markowitz on February 24, 2013

Newsbusters.org published a distasteful story about the rather despicable Bill Maher.  One of Maher’s Tweets this week put conservative African-American Herman Cain in his verbal crosshairs when he said: “Man, #HermanCain is making a comeback – says he likes working with Fox team, particularly some of them fine-ass white women they got there“.

Maher inappropriate comments show that he is just another Leftist who believes his political persuasion gives him a pass on racism.  As Newsbusters concluded concerning the probable response from Maher’s employer, HBO: “…because it’s about a black conservative man, he’ll probably get a raise”.  These Leftists no longer keep their racism in the closet.

Leftist Bill Maher Freaks Out on the “Takers”

Posted by Steve Markowitz on January 28, 2013

Last Friday Leftist Bill Maher made some comments that were completely in tune with the philosophy of this Blog.  Houston, I think we have a problem!

maherDuring his HBO show Maher criticized the “23.5% dirt bags in America” that are takers.  In addition he concluded that: “It just seems like there’s less people pulling the wagon and more people in the wagon, and at some point the wagon is going to break“.  The full text with context is included below, emphasis added.

Initially this blog was tempted to conclude that Maher may have indulged a bit too much hooch before the show.  However, it is more likely that his fellow Progressives are getting a bit too close to Maher’s own pocketbook.  He is a part of the two-percenters and his liberal credentials won’t protect him from the takers.

Watch out Michael Moore, after they get finished taking from Bill Maher you are next.  Come to think of it, the diet would do you some good.

Maher: “One of the things Obama said in his speech that was kind of a jab was that Mitt Romney, who didn’t go to the inauguration, by the way.  That’s, nobody has done that since Dukakis didn’t show up.  It’s a little bit of a snub.  A little bit of bitterness, don’t you think? ….. What he did [Romney], he was talking about the 47% kind of because he mentioned “takers.”  I mean, I can’t remember what his exact quote was, but he basically was talking about when Mitt Romney during the campaign talked about the 47%.  And of course to get to that number of 47% who don’t pay federal taxes, that’s what he was talking about, you have to include veterans and retirees.”

“Okay, so basically what Mitt Romney was saying was, you know, “These spongers, these grifters, these people, I wouldn’t piss on them if their ass was on fire because they don’t pay in.”  But it’s not really 47%.  But I, here’s my question: It’s not zero percent either, takers.  I mean, there are a lot of dirt bags in this country, and I think it’s somewhere in between 47 and zero. I think we should split the difference and say we have 23.5% dirt bags in America.  I do.  Like the Octomom. California pays, we pay to, you know, feed and cloth and spay and neuter her children.  And she’s not giving back to society.”

Maher: “And here, listen to this about disability.  People who take disability, who are on disability, in 1968 it was 51 to1, people on disability to people who worked.  In 2001, not that long ago, it was 23 to 1.  Now it’s 13 to 1, 13 people to one who are on disability.  Now, of course, you know, some of that is real.  We are an overworked, overstressed, polluted, ripped off and lied to people. So, I mean, obviously there are some people who really do have disabilities.  But 13 to 1?  You know, it just seems like there’s less people pulling the wagon and more people in the wagon, and at some point the wagon is going to break.
