Leftist Actors Accused of Anti-Semitism

Posted by Steve Markowitz on August 3, 2014

In previous postings this Blog has proffered the view that the dangers of racism and anti-Semitism emanating from Progressives and Leftists are increasing.  This view is in opposite of the narrative the Left promotes of its views.  However, their actions demonstrate a dark side of their philosophies.

Relating to racism, or for that matter sexism, the Left often promotes the view that people of color, as well as women, are somehow unable to complete on a level playing field in the business and academic world.  The numbers of African Americans and women in high places of government and all sectors of the world proves this to be fallacious.  That raises questions as to the nations behind the Left’s continued use of this narrative.  At best it is to support industries that profit from the narrative.  The alternative is darker.

Jon VoightConcerning anti-Semitism, many on the Left now have a strong anti-Israeli bias.  In an effort to cover up the building anti-Semitism within the movement, criticism is typically couched with claims such as they are not anti-Semitic, but merely anti-Israeli policy.  While Israel, as with any country, should be open to criticism, the vitriol behind the Left’s attacks, as well as the disproportionate use of these attacks against Israel, indicate a motivation that goes beyond policy disagreements.  The open anti-Semitism openly promoted by Hamas, other Muslim radicals, and in the protests currently ongoing in various countries, also supports this conclusion.

Hollywood is not only one of the most vocal proponents of Leftist philosophies in the United States, but also a significant monetary contributor to politicians who promote Leftist causes, including President Obama.  That is not to say that all in Hollywood share the leftist dogma.

One actor who has been an outspoken critic of the Left is Jon Voight.  This week Voight attacked fellow actors including Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz for signing an open letter that was highly critical of Israel’s war against Hamas.  Voigt did not pull any punches accusing his fellow actors of fanning the flames of worldwide anti-Semitism.  Excerpts supplied by The Hollywood Reporter are included below, a refreshing view that is to avoid of political correctness or double-talk.

Jon Voight:

I am heartsick that people like Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem could incite anti-Semitism all over the world and are oblivious to the damage they have caused.

They are obviously ignorant of the whole story of Israel’s birth, when in 1948 the Jewish people were offered by the UN a portion of the land originally set aside for them in 1921 – and the Arab Palestinians were offered the other half.

The Arabs rejected the offer, and the Jews accepted – only to be attacked by five surrounding Arab countries committed to driving them into the sea.  The Arabs tried again in 1967 and again in 1973.

Each time, the Jews prevailed, but not without great loss of life.  And yet, Israel has always labored for a peaceful relation with its Arab neighbors.  It voluntarily returned the Sinai Peninsula to Egypt in return for peace, and gave the Palestinians all of Gaza as a peace gesture.

What was the response?  The Palestinians elected Hamas, a terrorist organization, and they immediately began firing thousands of rockets into Israel.

I am asking all my peers who signed that poison letter against Israel to examine their motives.  Can you take back the fire of anti-Semitism that is raging all over the world now?

You should hang your heads in shame.  You should come forth with deep regrets for what you did – and ask for forgiveness from the suffering people in Israel.

Chuck Hagel to be Nominated for Defense Secretary

Posted by Steve Markowitz on January 6, 2013

220px-Chuck_Hagel_official_photoIt is reported that former Republican Senator Chuck Hagel will be nominated by President. Obama for become his next Secretary of Defense.  It would be nice if this nomination of a Republican was done in the name of bipartisanship.  However, even a cursory review of Hagel’s past indicates other motivations by the President.

Tom Cotton, Republican Congressman elect from Arkansas wrote an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal titled A Soldier’s-Eye View of Chuck Hagel with concerns about this upcoming nomination.  Cotton, who served as a US infantry officer in Iraq and Afghanistan, offered the following concerns:

  • At the height of the Iraqi insurgency problem, Hagel made precisely the wrong conclusions about that war.  In November 2006, while a Senator from Nebraska, Hagel wrote an op-ed published in the Washington Post suggesting a rapid withdrawal from Iraq stating that further effort would not yield positive results.  Hagel called President Bush’s surge “the most dangerous foreign policy blunder in this country since Vietnam“.  History has proven Hagel to totally off base with this assessment with the surge becoming a significant success.
  • In 2007, Hagel voted against designating Iran’s Revolutionary Guard a terrorist organization.  There can be little justification for this vote against not only America’s enemy, but clearly terrorists who to this day support the Syrian regime that has killed 60,000 of its own people.

Hagel has shown other propensities that make him to be a peculiar choice for Defense Secretary. Over the years he showed skepticism relating to America sanctions against Iran, a policy that is the centerpiece being pursued currently by President Obama.  In addition, he has been unwilling to isolate terrorist groups including Hamas and Hezbollah.  In addition, he has taking a rather adversarial approach towards Israel once making the incredible statement: “The Jewish lobby intimidates a lot of people up here.

Chuck Hagel is likely qualified to be Secretary of Defense, not only because of his past political experience, but also as a veteran.  In addition, presidents should be given leeway on their choice for cabinet members.  At the same time, Hagel’s choice by Obama again shows that this president is a divider who is unconcerned by the portion of American’s that take it as an affront when radicals such as Hagel are appointed to position of power in his administration.

Obama and Jewish American Voters

Posted by Steve Markowitz on September 15, 2012

Many Libertarian and Conservatives find it difficult to comprehend President Obama’s appeal to Americans, other than those receiving government handouts, pay or benefits.  One of group of supporters that is an enigma includes Jewish American voters.

Historically Jewish Americans have voted Democratic.  This can be explained by the group’s minority and oppressed status throughout history that created a belief that governmental protection is their best protection from persecution.  In addition, many Jewish Americans that immigrated to the United States in the 20th century came from Socialist backgrounds in the European countries they left.  Finally, Franklin D. Roosevelt was viewed as a special political figure to many immigrants during the 20th century.

Up until the radical Left gained significant power in the Democratic Party it was understandable that Jewish Americans would continue support for the Party.  In fact, Harry Truman was perhaps the most important figure in the world to ensure that the State of Israel would come into existence through the UN resolution.  The more recent radical direction of the Democratic Party should bring into question further backing by the Jewish American community.

As a Democratic Party has become more radicalized towards the Left, various interest groups that are antagonistic towards Israel and some that are even anti-Semitic have gained power within the Party.  More recently the Democratic Party has shown disdain for religion in general, as well is Israel, as demonstrated in positions originally included in the 2012 Party Platform.  In addition, President Obama has taken positions and made decisions since being elected that are clearly anti-Israeli.

A recent editorial by Wayne Allyn Root (posted below), a businessman, Libertarian and Jewish American, states a logical position as to why it is time for Jewish American voters to abandon the Democratic Party in general and Barack Obama specifically.

Why Obama Has Abandoned Israel and Why Jews Should Abandon Obama

by, Wayne Allyn Root

Mitt Romney had an interesting, controversial, and completely ignored line during his speech at the Republican National Convention. Mitt said “Obama has thrown Israel under the bus.” Mitt knew something the rest of us didn’t.  The story is shocking, as much for the betrayal of one of our strongest allies, as for the timing.

Obama has gone rogue.  It’s been clear since day one, President Obama is no friend of Israel.  But I thought his betrayal would be timed for sometime after the election- perhaps on a quiet Thanksgiving or Christmas holiday weekend.  The fact he has openly thrown Israel under the bus BEFORE the election is a disturbing sign for Jews (and for all Americans who support the right of our longtime friend and ally Israel to exist).  Can you imagine what Obama is capable of after the Presidential election- if he never again has to answer to Jewish voters?

On Thursday, August 30th Time magazine disclosed that U.S. Joint Chiefs Chairman, General Martin Dempsey, told reporters in London, “I don’t want to be complicit” if Israel chooses to conduct a military strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities.  No top general would ever say anything like that without orders from the White House. Those are clearly Obama’s words, not Dempsey’s.

Even louder than the words are the actions of the Obama administration.  TIME reports that a U.S.-Israeli joint war games exercise was postponed several months ago to show Obama’s displeasure over Israel’s plans to strike Iran’s nuclear facilities.  After being re-scheduled for this Fall it has suddenly been scaled back, drastically. TIME reports that “well-placed sources” in both countries have confirmed that the Obama administration has slashed more than two-thirds the number of U.S. troops participating; decided not to send crews to operate Patriot anti-missile systems; and will either cut in half or entirely eliminate the Ballistic Missile Defense warships involved in the exercise.

A senior Israeli official told TIME the message the Obama administration is sending is “We don’t trust you.”  I would contend the Israeli official is being very diplomatic.  The real message is much more brutal: “Good luck Israel. You are on your own.”

Everyone in the Obama administration is aware that an attack by Israel on Iran requires the latest “bunker buster” bombs provided only by the U.S. military.  Israel also knows that a pre-emptive strike on Iran (to save itself from the holocaust promised by Iran as soon as it has nuclear capabilities), will result in retaliation from both Iran and Hezbollah.  With 40,000+ missiles aimed at Israel from nearby Lebanon, Israel needs not only missile shields, but also military help from the U.S. to protect her civilian population and her very survival.

Even worse, the X-band radar system in the Israeli desert aimed at Iran and linked to Israel’s anti-missile systems, to warn Israel of incoming missiles, is manned by and controlled by U.S. military personnel.  Without cooperation from the U.S. military, Israel is literally “flying blind.”  The ability to save Israeli civilian lives and shoot down incoming missiles is in the hands of Barack Obama.  And his message is clear, “We don’t have your back.”

Given the cold shoulder Obama has given Israel since his inauguration, it is not a major shock that he is the first U.S.      President to refuse to help Israel defend her citizens and national security.  What is a major shock is his showing in no uncertain terms his bias against Israel’s right to defend herself BEFORE the election.

The question is “Why?” Obviously, first is Obama’s true radical nature – he is no friend of Israel.  Second, Obama had no choice, but to abandon Israel now.  As I’ve predicted publicly for months now, Israel is assured of no help after the election (if Obama is reelected and no longer has to face Jewish voters ever again).  Therefore Israel’s best option is to order the attack before the U.S. election, when Obama’s distaste for Israel may be overcome by his desperate need for Jewish votes and Jewish donors to remain in power.  Netanayu undoubtedly told Obama that he has reached the same decision.

Boxed into a corner, Obama is now doing all in his power to stop the air strike now, stalling it until after the election.  And of course, we all know Obama loves to please Russian President Putin.  Rumors from sources in both Washington and Moscow report that Putin has asked Obama to handcuff Israel.  We all heard Obama tell the Russians “Sit tight and give me space, this is my last election.  After my election I have more flexibility.”  Unfortunately, it’s now clear one of those “flexible items” is to abandon Israel.

As a Jew and a lifelong supporter of Israel, I would ask my fellow Jews to think long and hard at the voting booth on November 6th.  Perhaps it is time to consider whether the historic voting patterns of Jews on behalf of the Democratic Party are in the best interests of the Jewish people?  Is a vote for Obama, a vote condemning Israel to become a sitting duck in the name of political correctness?  Even more importantly, is voting for Obama over social issues, or a woman’s right to choose, worth risking another another Holocaust?

My conclusion: It’s time for Jews to abandon Obama, the same way Obama has abandoned Israel.

Pelosi Claims Jewish Voters Exploited by Republicans

Posted by Steve Markowitz on July 30, 2012

While running for the presidency, President Obama promised “hope and change”, i.e. getting beyond racial divisions and red/blue states differences.  Instead, he has proven to be the most divisive president of modern time and has deepened the divide between blacks and whites, gays and straights, Hispanics and Anglos, Left and Right, and other subcategories of Americans created by the Progressive Left.

The divider-chief’s tactics are also used by other Leftists.  This weekend House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi went on the offensive during an interview on Bloomberg.  The subject was a trend of Jewish voters going against Obama.  Pelosi started her rant stating: “I think [Obama] will.  I think that he will, because the fact is when the facts get out.  You know, as many of the Republicans are using Israel as an excuse, what they really want are tax cuts for the wealthy.  So Israel, that can be one reason they put forth.”  How this wingback connects Israel and “tax cuts for the wealthy” goes beyond any semblance of logic.

After spouting her lame logic, Pelosi then said: “Well, that’s how they’re being exploited.  And they’re smart people.”  Forgetting for a moment the condescending tone used, intelligent people generally are difficult to exploit.

Nancy Pelosi is a poster child for what is wrong with American politics.  She is divisive and lacking of logic.  As long as such people hold power in Washington, real progress on the Country’s significant issues will not be obtained.

Cornell Belcher Calls Herman Cain Racist

Posted by Steve Markowitz on October 3, 2011

Successful woman that have conservative views are often typically portrayed by the Left as lacking intelligence.  If they also happen to be attractive, additional sexist remarks are added to the narrative.  The Left seems to have special disdain for independent woman who question Progressive failed policies.

Similarly, African-Americans with conservative leanings send the Left into rage.  Progressives have promoted the false view that African-Americans need governmental assistance to compete.  Consequently, the Left feels betrayed by those in the African-American community who believe the government inhibits their opportunities for growth.

Herman Cain is now in the crosshairs of the Progressive Left since his surprise victory in the Republican Florida straw poll in which he crushed his two nearest opponents, Romney and Perry.  Cain’s strong showing moves him from a very long shot to a viable candidate.  Now the Left feels threatened by Cain and is on the attack.

A few days after the Florida straw poll, Democrat attack-dog Cornell Belcher viciously went after Cain.  However, unlike Republican women who are typically attack on the intelligence issue, Cain was incredibly called racist by fellow African-American Belcher.  What brought Belcher to this remarkable conclusion?  It was Herman Cain’s response during the last Republican debate to the question as to why African-Americans voted about 90% for Democrats.  Cain responded that they were “brainwashed”.

Herman Cain clearly did not use the term “brainwashed” as an explanation of a psychological state.  However, it is reasonable to conclude that there is something more than logical decision making behind any ethnic group that would give 90% of their vote to one political party.

During the interview, Belcher questioned whether there would be more outrage had Cain’s statement being made about Jewish voters.  Quite frankly, Jewish conservatives question the cause behind that block of voters giving nearly 80% of their vote to Democrats over the years.  Fortunately for those of us who raise the question, Barack Obama is leveling the playing and will split its vote in the upcoming election.  A few more years of Obamanomics and the African-American block will follow.

Posted below is the video of the interchange between Belcher, Ari Fleischer and Anderson Cooper.  Belcher’s attack on Cain is an example of the mean-spirited name-calling that will be a significant part of the Democrat’s repertoire during the upcoming presidential race.  Given the policies failures and low Obama polling numbers, these are the only cards in the deck.

Palestinian Leader Rejects Blueprint for Peace

Posted by Steve Markowitz on October 1, 2011

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas returned to the West Bank last weekend to a triumphant welcome by the Palestinian people.  The reason for the warm welcome was his perceived successful visit to the United Nations where Abbas asked for full United Nations membership without having to make peace with Israel.  Abbas also took public a position that  many Palestinians have always and continue to demand; an end to the Israel as a Jewish State.

Abbas’s rejected a proposal being crafted by the peacemaking Quartet that includes the U.S., EU, United Nations and Russia.  Before the ink was even dry on the proposal, Abbas told reporters accompanying him that: “we will not deal with any initiative” that doesn’t upfront demand a freeze to Israeli settlements, as well as negotiations based on pre 1967 borders.  In other words, Abbas demands Israeli concessions before negotiations begin.  This is actually an effort to forestall any negotiations and shows the real intent of the Palestinians.

The Palestinians publically professed the willingness to accept a two state solution with the Israelis.  However this is but subterfuge and doubletalk.   When pushed on a key issue, they also publically stated that they will accept this solution only if Palestinians are granted the “Right of Return”, a backdoor way of eliminating Israel as a Jewish State, while at the same time demanding that the Palestinian state be Muslim.  This unwillingness to accept other religions as equals is ingrained within Muslim societies.

The Palestinian intransience on Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish State began long before Barack Obama was elected president.  However, Obama’s waffling on Middle East policy emboldened the Palestinians and has made even the slight chance for peace in this region less likely.

Bill Maher: Another Progressive Bigot Comes Out of the Closet

Posted by Steve Markowitz on April 9, 2011

What does Progressive Leftist Bill Maher do when he is unhappy with President Obama?  He resorts spouting anti-Semitism.  This past Friday Maher said (video below):

“I heard him a couple of times saying, “You know what? We met the Republicans what they asked, and then we gave them more.”  That’s like your lawyer saying to you,  “You know, I went into the chambers with the judge and the prosecutor, and my first offer was 40 years to life for you. And I think I can get your tailgating charge moved up to manslaughter.  And that’s my first offer.”  What is wrong with these people?  He is a terrible negotiator.  Does he not even know a Jew?”

Adding an exclamation point to his bigotry, Maher then showed a poster for replacing Glenn Beck on Fox News that depicted Joe Lieberman doing a program called, “Morning Jew.”

For years bigotry has been gaining traction in Leftist circles.  In earlier years it manifested itself mainly on the Left’s fringes with the likes of Louis Farrakhan and Pastor Wright.  It is becoming more mainstream in the Left.  Maher joins other Leftist bigots, as previously post on this Blog:

NPR’s Vivian Schiller attacking Zionist and Christians.

Code Pink calling for Clarence Thomas to be lynched.

MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell saying the Michael Steele answers to “his masters”.

Helen Thomas telling Jews to go back to Germany.

Oliver Stone indicating that Jews have overblown the Holocaust.

Congressman Paul Kanjorski demeaning minorities.

MSNBC’s Chris Mathews forgets that Obama is black for a few minutes.

Cynthia Tucker taking off on Michael because he is black.

When examples of racism and bigotry from the Left are outed, inevitably Progressive elitists offer excuses such as “they know what is in the person’s heart and therefore that person could not be a racists”.  The Left has wrapped racism in the covers of political correctness for their own continence.  This is a dangerous slippery slope that can lead to fascism.  It is the same slide that allowed half the country to vote for president a man who admittedly attended a bigoted church for twenty years.

NPR Executive Ron Schiller Caught on Video Spewing Hate

Posted by Steve Markowitz on March 8, 2011

National Public Radio (NPR) exec Ron Schiller, who just announced he would be leaving the network, was captured on camera attacking conservatives, Christians, the Tea Party, Jewish media and Juan Williams.  This is disconcerting considering the hundreds of millions of dollars that NPR receives from the taxpayers to subsidize this Leftist network.

The video tape was created by conservative filmmaker, James O’Keefe, without Schiller’s knowledge.  Two actors, who posed as members of a Muslim Brotherhood front group that was considering donating $5 million to NPR, recorded Schiller in the video below saying:

  • The current Republican Party, particularly the Tea Party, is fanatically involved in people’s personal lives and very fundamental Christian – I wouldn’t even call it Christian.  It’s this weird evangelical kind of move.” Schiller then added that the Republican Party, was “hijacked by this group.”
  • Schiller said of the Tea Party that they aren’t “just Islamaphobic, but really xenophobic, I mean basically they are, they believe in sort of white, middle-America gun-toting. I mean, it’s scary.  They’re seriously racist, racist people.”
  • As to liberals, Shiller said: “In my personal opinion, liberals today might be more educated, fair and balanced than conservatives.”
  • The actors informed Schiller that they were meeting in a Georgetown restaurant because, “the Zionist coverage is quite substantial elsewhere.”
  • When one of the actors said they were “not too upset about maybe a little bit less Jew influence of money into NPR,” Schiller indicated that he doesn’t find “Zionist or pro-Israel” ideas at NPR, “even among funders.  I mean it’s there in those who own newspapers, obviously, but no one owns NPR.”
  • Schiller indicates that he is “most disappointed by in this country, which is that the educated, so-called elite in this country is too small a percentage of the population, so that you have this very large un-educated part of the population that carries these ideas.
  • Schiller said he is “very proud of” how NPR fired Juan WilliamsWhat NPR stood for is non-racist, non-bigoted, straightforward telling of the news and our feeling is that if a person expresses his or her opinion, which anyone is entitled to do in a free society, they are compromised as a journalist.”

For those few who still believed NPR to be an unbiased news source worthy of taxpayers’ funds, Schiller help put a dagger in the heart of that fairytale.

Late in the meeting Schiller made is most appropriate statements when he said: “Well frankly, it is clear that we (NPR) would be better off in the long-run without federal funding.  The challenge right now is that if we lost it all together we would have a lot of stations go dark,”  and added that: “Yes, NPR would definitely survive and most of the stations would survive.

Mr. Schiller has the right to any harebrain opinions he can come up with.  However, NPR as a government-sponsored entity, has no such right.  Their backing of Progressive causes is a conflict of interest, one where they promote the Liberal agenda and in return Democrats pay them back with taxpayer finds.  That corruptive connection must be broken by removing all taxpayer funded subsidies to the network.  As Schiller has already admitted: “NPR would definitely survive and most of the stations would survive.

Huffington Post: Accept “Constructive Role of Faith” in the New Egypt

Posted by Steve Markowitz on February 5, 2011

The Huffington Post on February 1 included an article titled “U.S. Must Understand the Constructive Role of Faith in Egypt’s Democratic Aspirationswritten by Dalia Mogahed.  This article seems in strange conflict with the Post’s Progressive leanings that includes intolerance for religion in the United States, or at least hostility towards Christianity and what is often referred to taps the “Religious Right”.

Ms. Mogahed’s words are benign on the surface.  She suggests that American’s should understand and accept without fear the secondary role that religion is playing the current uprising in Egypt, as well as the role it will play in the new government going forward.  Her comment include:

“At the same time, Egyptians’ rising religiosity may very well play a role in this development, just as faith often animated our own civil rights struggle.”

“U.S. policy makers would do well to embrace this nuance, which to us as Americans should sound familiar. From abolitionists to the civil rights movement, American leaders have drawn inspiration from their faith in their pursuit of justice.”

Ms. Mogahed’s attempt to show similarities between political and social movements in the United States that were backed by religious groups and those in Egypt being back by the Muslim Brotherhood is a tenuous one.  The Christians and Jews that were early and strong supporters of the Civil Rights movement in the United States had no history of violence and no political aspirations.  Such is not the case with the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt.

In addition, the American Left were early supporters of the movement that overthrew the Shah in Iran in the late 1970’s.  They backed what they thought was a democratic movement, which later was overtaken by radical Islam.  That backing was misplaced with the benefit of hindsight.

It is easy to get carried away with the events in Egypt and it is natural for Americans to back protesters screaming for freedom.   However, the photographs and videos coming from Egypt only show the emotional side of the protests.  They say nothing of the politics and power struggles that are also playing out in the shadows that will ultimately decide the fate of the new Egypt.

Congressman Steve Cohen Doesn’t Buy Into Obama’s Call for Civility

Posted by Steve Markowitz on January 20, 2011

During President Obama’s speech concerning the massacre that occurred in Tucson, Arizona he discussed his desire for more civility in the political arena.  At least one of his Democrat associates in Congress isn’t buying into message.

This week Representative Steve Cohen, Democrat from Tennessee went into attack mode against the Republicans with the follow incredible diatribe:

They say it’s a government takeover of health care, a big lie just like Goebbels.  You say it enough, you repeat the lie, you repeat the lie, and eventually, people believe it.  Like blood libel.

The Germans said enough about the Jews and people believed it-believed it and you have the Holocaust.  We heard on this floor, government takeover of health care.  Politifact said the biggest lie of 2010 was a government takeover of health care because there is no government takeover.”

While Cohen’s comments are despicable, they are not untypical for the Left.  Disagree with a Progressive and you may be labeled a Nazi or stupid.  In their view of the worked there is no room for dissent.

A narrative created by the Left is that mean-spirited politics emanates from Conservatives.  This is often proved false by fellow Leftist such as Cohen.  Just imagine if Sarah Palin had said something as reprehensible as Cohen did?
