The US employment report posted last week by the Labor Department paints blurred picture. While unemployment remained at 5.1%, this is but a slight of hand created by fuzzy numbers. Here are some of the stats reported by the Wall Street Journal:
- During September only 136,000 new jobs were created, far short of what economists predicted.
- The Labor Department decreased the 173,200 and 245,000 jobs supposedly created to August and July down to 136,000 and 123,000 respectively.
- During the summer of 2014, approximately 250,000 jobs per month were created.
- Wage growth was stagnant during August, down by a penny from July.
The government reported that the unemployment rate remained steady at 5.1% for September. This was accomplished by fuzzy accounting. The government, in its infinite wisdom, does not count Americans that have given up on finding full-time employment as being unemployed. The fallacy of this accounting practice is demonstrated by the workforce participation rate being at its lowest levels 40 years, falling by another 0. 2% in September to just 62.4%.
The economy requires approximately 200,000 new jobs monthly to keep up with overall workforce growth. Given we are now seven years into President Obama’s economic policies, the weak employment numbers show failure. The programs include the huge Stimulus spending initiated during his first year in office and continued with other interventions including Cash for Clunkers, mortgage relief, green energy programs, etc. Instead of recognizing the failure of these interventions, Progressives including the President suggest policies that will further depress wages. This includes promoting additional immigration that will add pressure on wages, and increasing the cost of labor through Obamacare and a higher minimum wage.
The Federal Reserve’s policies have also proven ineffective. While the Fed has used historically low interest rates as a cure-all for the economic maladies, these policies were counterproductive. However, the Fed is now in a conundrum. Given the weak jobs data it is fearful that if it raises interest rates that economic growth will be further hampered. But, interest rates will inevitably go up and that will not be a good day for the economy.
Since the economic meltdown of 2008, politicians from both parties promised economic fixes without pain. This alchemy is not possible. There were severe economic imbalances that needed the right themselves after the meltdown. Governmental interventions stop these necessary events. Sooner or later they will rebalance. Like a boiling pot, the longer the lid is kept on the more violent the pressure release will be.

It is with little satisfaction that those of us who have been writing about the tyranny of government under President Obama have been vindicated. Today is a red letter date in that vindication, a culmination of three major scandals within the Obama Administration.
Benghazigate – It is apparent that the White House falsified the talking points used to promote the theory that an obscure video was somehow related to the attack on the American consulate in Benghazi, Libya that led to the deaths of four Americans including the US ambassador. At least, this involves lying to the American people.
IRSgate – The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has admitted to and apologized for going after tax-exempt organizations with conservative political leanings. It still is to be determined how far up the food-chain in Washington this investigation will lead, but it is obviously someone with Leftists/Progressive leanings. This involves using the IRS as a tool (hammer) to badger ones’ political opponents.
APgate – Late today another scandal went public with the announcement that 20 Associated Press (AP) telephone lines were bugged for over two months involving possibly hundreds of reporters. This type of direct attack on the press by the US Justice Department has not been seen since the presidency of Richard Nixon. This is a direct attack on freedom of the press by the government.
It was only a few days ago that the above issues were either unheard of or ignored by the mainstream media. The culmination of the scandals is too much for even the Leftist press to continue to ignore. Remarkably, CNN’s Leftist moderator Piers Morgan this evening went on the offensive against the Obama Administration during an interview with Democratic Congressman Elijah Cummings. Even Cummings begrudgingly admitted his own concern for America’s democracy, given the growing scandals.
The scandals prove the tyranny of government that was of such concern for our Founders. They also show the incompetence of a colossal government that even with the best of intentions, spirals out-of-control in a lust for power.
This Blogger will and this posting as it started, without any sense of satisfaction for being proven correct about Barack Obama’s disrespect of the Constitution and individual rights. Instead, I hope that the Country will seize on the serious challenge of the tyranny of an overreaching government and bring the United States back to its Constitutional roots.

The New York Times reported that the US Justice Department will file a civil suit against Standard & Poor’s Rating Service. According to the report, the Justice Department claims that S&P fraudulently rated mortgage bonds that played a role in creating the financial meltdown of 2008. The Justice Department indicated it will seek in excess of $1 billion in damages.
In submitting this story, a Blog reader said:
“Let’s see if I’ve got this right: The banks that made the bad loans got bailed out and no bankers went to jail. But, now the government now wants to put the rating agency on the hook for $1 billion. In other words, failure to report a crime is worse than committing the crime itself. Makes sense to me!”
To the comment above this Blog adds that when it comes to government, logic is irrelevant. Is it possible that the US government is threatening S&P to keep it from downgrading US debt in the future?

The killer on the loose in California does not fit the profile included in the false narrative created by the Left concerning guns and violence in the United States. This reality has affected the amount of press the issue receives and the manner in which this tragedy is being portrayed.
The suspected in the California killings is former Los Angeles police officer Christopher Dorner who was fired from the department in 2008. Dorner’s first victim last weekend was the daughter of a former police officer who represented him during a disciplinary hearing that led to his firing. Early today in two separate incidents, police came under fire east of Los Angeles and Dorner is believed to be the perpetrator. There is currently a massive manhunt ongoing for the killer.
Dorner published a 22 page manifesto sharing some of his social/political views. The website weaselzippers.us posted a few of these rants that include:
Anti-NRA – “Wayne LaPierre, President of the NRA, you’re a vile and inhumane piece of shit. You never even showed 30 seconds of empathy for the children, teachers, and families of Sandy Hook.”
Pro Piers Morgan – “…give Piers Morgan an indefinite resident alien and Visa card. Mr. Morgan, the problem that many American gun owners have with you and your continuous discussion of gun control is that you are not an American citizen and have an accent that is distinct and clarifies that you are a foreigner. I want you to know that I agree with you 100% on enacting stricter firearm laws.”
Pro Obama – “You disrespect the office of the POTUS/Presidency and Commander in Chief. You call him Kenyan, mongroid, halfrican, muslim, and FBHO when in essence you are to address him as simply, President. The same as you did to President George W. Bush and all those in the highest ranking position of our land before him. Just as I always have. You question his birth certificate, his educational and professional accomplishments, and his judeo-christian beliefs. You make disparaging remarks about his dead parents. …..”
Pro-Gun Control – “Who in there right mind needs a f_____g silencer!!! who needs a freaking SBR AR15? No one. No more Virginia Tech, Columbine HS, Wisconsin temple, Aurora theatre, Portland malls, Tucson rally, Newtown Sandy Hook. Whether by executive order or thru a bi-partisan congress an assault weapons ban needs to be re-instituted. Period!!! Mia Farrow said it best. “Gun control is no longer debatable, it’s not a conversation, its a moral mandate.”
If Dorner happened to be a right-winger, the mainstream media would be up-fronting this part of his biography. Leftist politicians in Washington would be yelling for more gun control and the need for civility in our political discourse. There double standard will be evident in their silence.
The fact that Dorner happens to hold Leftist political views is totally irrelevant. He is but another individual with psychological defects similar to those of other mass killers. It is likely that as more information services concerning Dorner, that just like the Sandy Hook murder, others knew of his psychological issues. The fact that he was allowed have access to guns and freely roam the streets are the real problems facing our society faces.
Removing every so-called “assault rifle” from our society would not have saved one of the Dorner’s victims. Many politicians, including Sen. Feinstein of California, who focus their angst on the assault rifle understand this. Their focus on an inanimate object is a deflection that allows them to avoid discussions on the degradation of society caused by their Progressive social agenda.

NBC News’s investigative correspondent, Michael Isikoff, reported on a chilling story of governmental overreach. Isikoff reported on a confidential Justice Department memo that authorizes the US government to assassinate American citizens located outside of the United States. Should the government conclude that such individuals are “senior operational leaders” of known terrorist organizations, they have the legal authority to assassinate such individuals even without evidence of imminent threat to the United States.
The shocking Justice Department memo is likely created to be cover for future legal actions that may be taken against Americans who authorize this ultimate of sanctions. In September 2011 a US drone strike in Yemen killed American citizens Anwar al-Awlaki and Samir Khan who were supposedly involved with Al Qaeda.
Deputy legal director of the ACLU, Jameel Jaffer, rightfully said of the Administration’s plan:
“This is a chilling document. Basically, it argues that the government has the right to carry out the extrajudicial killing of an American citizen. … It recognizes some limits on the authority it sets out, but the limits are elastic and vaguely defined, and it’s easy to see how they could be manipulated.”
It is remarkable how far we have come in four years. Shortly after his first election Barack Obama and his Atty. Gen. Eric Holder threaten criminal action against government employees involved in waterboarding suspected terrorists during the Bush administration. Since then the President has used assassinations without due process on the same type of individuals and creates a legal memo for justification. Where is the moral outrage from the Left?
President Obama is indeed a uniter. Who else could have gotten this Blogger and the ACLU on the same page on an important issue!
