Independent Journal Review reports on yet another sign of the disintegration and political tampering in education by the higher-education industry. According to the report, George Washington University has changed its requirements for history majors, no longer requiring a course in US History to earn the degree.
GW joins approximately one third of the top US universities in omitting the American history requirement, according to the American Council of Trustees and Alumni (ACTA). ACTA President-elect Michael Poliakoff correctly says of this radical direction:
“Historical illiteracy is the inevitable consequence of lax college requirements, and that ignorance leads to civic disempowerment. A democratic republic cannot thrive without well-informed citizens and leaders. Elite colleges and universities in particular let the nation down when the examples they set devalue the study of United States history.”
It would be bad enough if universities the US history requirement to make way for courses they felt were more important for students, irrespective of how ludicrous that conclusion would be. No, instead their motivation is far more sinister. Progressives at universities understand that history teaches lessons that affect graduates’ conclusions and then ultimately future policy decisions that could inhibit the radical Left’s political agenda.
Besides irresponsible curriculums, the cost of services universities offer, i.e. education, are out of control. While in a free market consumers would ultimately demand improvement and more efficiency, governmental intervention through financing and funding programs has allowed consumers to be pillaged. This is another example of damage to society as a result of crony capitalism

Since Donald Trump’s election, the liberal Left has been in a downward spiral. Immediately following the election the Left was in shock and acted in a respectable manner. Hillary Clinton graciously conceded and suggested that the President-elect be given time to work on behalf of the People. Barack Obama gracious statements included offering his office’s full cooperation in the transition of power. In the five weeks since, the liberal Left has been in full attack mode.
First, Green Party candidate Jill Stein asked for vote recounts in various states even though she received few votes during election. This effort had the tacit support of Hillary Clinton’s team. When that effort failed, the Russian-backed computer issue took over. While there is clear evidence of Russian hacking that was known before the election, the liberal Left attempted to create a nexus between that hacking and the election’s outcome. However, there is absolutely no evidence to support this narrative.
The liberal Left is persistent. Now, their attempt to nullify the will of the People is focused on convincing Electors to ignore the vote outcomes in their states. While this effort will fail, the tactic nevertheless indicates a distain for the Democratic process and Constitution. Prior to the election, when the Left was convinced of Hillary’s inevitable victory, their related focus was on whether Trump would accept the will of the People when he lost. Their approach since demonstrates the Left’s hypocrisy.
The Left’s derangement since Trump’s election goes deeper than organized political associations. This has been exhibited by some in the news media breaking down in tears, college professors giving students time off for election depression, and New York City Mayor Bill DeBlasio offering paid counseling for city workers depressed by Trump’s election. Families were even coached prior to Thanksgiving on how to avoid acrimonious discussions during the holiday dinner.
This week Fox News host Tucker Carlson interviewed Kurt Eichenwald, senior Newsweek writer, concerning his reporting of Trump. The exchange, included in the video below, is a poster child for Leftist derangement.
Carlson raised an Eichenwald tweet in which the Newsweek reporter indicated that Trump had a nervous breakdown and was “institutionalized in a mental hospital for a nervous breakdown in 1990.” Carlson asked a yes or no question as to whether Trump was ever institutionalized. Not only wouldn’t Eichenwald’s answer, but he is response devolved into derangement with the Newsweek senior writer seemingly losing connection with reality.
It is understandable that those who voted for Hillary Clinton are disappointed with the election. However, given that Donald Trump was elected and will become the next President of the United States, the derangement has developed is irrational. It also is undemocratic.
It is time for all Americans to get behind the President-elect and work with him to promote policies that are for the benefit of the Country. Should the President-elect propose or promote policies not in keeping with one’s moral or political views, that would be the appropriate time for opposition.

For Baby Boomers, the late 1960s were an exciting and turbulent time. A youth movement exerted itself for the first time in America. We protested racism, the Vietnam War and other areas deemed ripe for social change. We also introduced a bit of excitement into our social lives, but that’s a topic for another posting.
While good came of the 60’s movement, there were dark sides that continue to impact society today. First, our desire to change the world through our youth movement morphed into a perverse type of narcissism. We not only demanded societal benefits for the less fortunate, but also ourselves in ever increasing amounts. As a result, programs like Social Security are becoming insolvent due to benefits handed out like candy on Halloween.
In addition, our demands to be heard morphed into an unwillingness to listen to others. We shouted down the establishment, which has become the norm today for any group with a cause. It is a tactic that stifles debate with the favorite tool being political correctness.
Bernie Sanders, the Independent Senator from Vermont, was on the receiving end of the Radical Left’s disdain for free speech. Sanders, who is running for president in the Democratic primaries, was in Seattle this weekend on a campaign swing. When attempting to make a speech in Seattle, WA, Sanders was not only heckled, but called a part of the “white supremacist liberals” by some involved with the Black Lives Matter movement. After 20 minutes of heckling, Sanders was forced to leave without giving his speech. Video clip posted below.
It is ironic that Sanders, an unapologetic Socialist, was at the rally at Seattle’s Westlake Park to commemorate the celebration of entitlement programs Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. These programs were initiated to help those that are at economic risk. Sanders has been a champion for income redistribution, also benefits the same groups. For Sanders to be heckled off the stage by the Radical Left is one sign that that the movement has a fascist side.

Almost immediately after the shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri by police officer Darren Wilson, supposed witnesses came forward and reported that Brown was shot while trying to surrender with his hands up. These reports created the narrative of “hands up, don’t shoot” that became the rallying cry for protesters of the Brown shooting. This rallying cry was reported and repeated by news outlets throughout the country, civil rights leaders, and even politicians on the floor of Congress. The problem is that the reports were built on a lie; the “hands up don’t shoot” never occurred.
The “hands up don’t shoot” claim was found false in the recently released Justice Department report that concluded “Brown never surrendered with his hands up, and Wilson was justified in shooting Brown.” It also concluded that the witnesses that reported “hands up, don’t shoot” were not reliable.
While many in the United States rush to judgment based on this narrative, even with the Justice Department’s unequivocal conclusion on the falseness of the claim, few in the news media or the politicians that promoted it apologized for their error or to Officer Darren Wilson who was discredited and lost his job.
There have been a few exceptions to the silence for those that erred concerning Ferguson. Liberal Washington Post columnist, Jonathan Capehart, to his credit admitted last week that the “hands up, don’t shoot” narrative he too promoted was “built on a lie”.
While Mr. Capehart showed honor, others are unapologetic. For instance, last Thursday on CNN Tonight hosted by Don Lemon, a debate was held on the “hands up, don’t shoot” narrative. While some on the panel admitted the claim false, others doubled down on the false story with Monifa Bandele stating:
“‘Hands up’ is the ultimate truth, and the reason why hands up has gone viral across the country is because it’s a posture known to black people, whether they are in the halls of congress, whether they are in the NFL, or whether they live in the most marginalized communities — or whether they’re on the campuses of Yale University. It’s a posture known to them.”
Ms. Bandele’s and others who prove to be unwilling to admit their grievous error in the Brown tragedy exemplify what is so wrong with America today. Partisan positions and personal agendas trump absolute truths. While this currently serves the “needs” of the radical Left since their narrative has significant control over societal directions, there will be a time when the pendulum shifts and their tactic of dishonesty will be used to promote a very different agenda. Only then will the cry foul.
Often those who promote a position that differs with the Leftist agendas, such as the theory of man-made global warming, are attacked as flat earther’s or some other derogatory stab at their intellect. If ignorance was the reason behind the Left’s false narrative on the Ferguson shooting it would be a disappointment. Unfortunately there is something more sinister behind their use of the Ferguson tragedy to further their own personal agendas.

A Massachusetts law barred citizens from protesting within 35 feet of abortion clinics in the State. The Supreme Court has appropriately struck down this law as it clearly violated the First Amendment (free-speech) of the Constitution. It is telling that Supreme Court acted unanimously with even its four liberal members including three women finding the law unconstitutional.
It is bad enough that Massachusetts made an unconstitutional law clearly to inhibit free speech. However, the reaction to the ruling from some on the left in the Bay State is just in trouble. Its Atty. Gen. Martha Coakley has responded saying that “this fight is just beginning again” and went on to wine about the court saying “from the beginning was hostile.” Massachusetts Democratic Atty. Gen. candidate called the ruling “unconscionable” and wined that it would “deny a few seconds of privacy to women going to see their doctors.”
It is very troubling that two lawyers, one who is the Massachusetts Attorney General and another who would hold that position, know so little about the Constitution, or conversely have such disdain for it. The right to free speech is as the US Supreme Court ruled, “but the prime objective of the First Amendment is not efficiency.”
Is becoming more evident by their actions that some Progressives on the Left believe that their political views and special interests even trump the most basic rights guaranteed to American citizens in the Constitution. This is quite scary and is morphing into a form of fascism. President Obama is a card-carrying member of this dangerous political club.

Big-time Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein once again demonstrates the hypocrisy of the radical Left. Weinstein’s films include ultra-violent hits such as: Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill (Vol. 1 and 2), Rambo and more recently the Django Unchained, all that glorify violence and killings in most also guns
While Weinstein has made millions promoting guns and violence in his films that has not stopped him from attacking gun ownership for Americans. During a radio interview last week on Howard Stern’s show Weinstein went on an anti-gun rant saying “I don’t think we need guns in this country. And I hate it. I think the NRA is a disaster area,” and “I’m going to make a movie with Meryl Streep, and we’re going to take this issue head on. And they’re going to wish they weren’t alive after I’m done with them”. Left unsaid by Weinstein is how he plans to bring the NRA and its members to their demise.
During the interview Howard Stern took Weinstein to task concerning some inconsistencies relating to his previous comments concerning when gun ownership would be appropriate, for example, for Jews to defend themselves during the Holocaust; “when you’re marching a half of a million people into Auschwitz.” Unfortunately, Weinstein seems to have forgotten or two be ignorant of the fact that Germany used its laws to confiscate guns from Jews prior to marching them off to the death camps. Weinstein is either a fool or has lost any sense of reality from his long association with Hollywood. Or maybe it is just politics given Weinstein’s significant backing of Barack Obama. Whatever his excuse, Weinstein is clearly a hypocrite.

New York’s Liberal Democrat governor, Andrew Cuomo, exhibited a dangerous side of the Left; intolerance for political dissent. During a recent interview on WCNY radio, Cuomo one after conservative Republicans stating:
“Who are they? Are they these extreme conservatives who are right-to-life, pro-assault-weapon, anti-gay? Is that who they are? Because if that’s who they are and if they are the extreme conservatives, they have no place in the state of New York, because that’s not who New Yorkers are.” He also went on to condescendingly say: “moderate Republicans have a place in this state”.
What chutzpah! First, it is not for Cuomo who is supposed to be representing all New Yorkers to define what is “extreme”. That is up to the people of New York and as voters they speak. In addition, the governor has no right to determine who has a place in the state.
This attack on political dissent by the Left is not only undemocratic, but dangerous. However, it will get little play in the mainstream news media. Just imagine the reaction from the press if a Republican governor would say: “If they are extreme liberals who are pro-abortion, anti-gun, pro-gay, they have no place in our state”.
The liberal Left today has become what the McCarthyite’s were to the 1950s. We can only hope that we get through this fascist mentality as quickly as we did it in the 1950s.

Last week MSNBC’s Melissa Harris-Perry took that network’s distasteful rhetoric to new lows. During a segment that was supposed to be humorous, a picture of the Romney family was posted that included their grandchildren. Prominent in the photo was an adopted grandchild who happened to be of African-American heritage. The panel then went on to make distasteful jokes about the grandchild and the family relating to race.
Yesterday, Harris-Perry went on the air and made an emotional apology that:
“Without reservation or qualification, I apologize to the Romney family. Adults who enter into public life implicitly consent to having less privacy. But their families, and especially their children, should not be treated callously or thoughtlessly. My intention was not malicious, but I broke the ground-rule that families are off-limits. And for that I am sorry.”
“Also, allow me to apologize to other families formed through trans-racial adoption, because I am deeply sorry that we suggested that interracial families are in any way funny or deserving of ridicule.”
After viewing the video below it is hard to imagine that Ms. Harris-Perry is not being genuine in her contrition and apology. She is to be commended for offering it without equivocation. However, there is a bigger story here relating to the growing racism and mean-spiritedness exhibited by the Progressive Left of which Harris-Perry is a charter member. This group has come full circle. What started many years ago as a group concerned for the less fortunate has morphed into an ugly political movement that stifles free speech and spews hatred to any that disagree with them. It is this reality that led to the ugly behavior by Harris-Perry and her guest.

This Blog has proffered the view that racism and anti-Semitism is currently more prevalent on the Left than emanating from the Right. A recent example of this Leftists hate emanates from that bastion of modern liberalism, Harvard University. According to newsbusters.org, students at the Nine River Houses residence had invitations placed under their doors late last week to attend “Harvard’s Newest Final Club.” In footnotes the invitation stated: “Jews need not apply, … Seriously, no f–king Jews,” as well as “Coloreds OK”.
After concluding that this offensive diatribe was not part of the satirical Harvard Lampoon, a Harvard official said: “As Dean of the College, and as an educator, I find these flyers offensive. They are not a reflection of the values of our community. Even if intended as satirical in nature, they are hurtful and offensive to many students, faculty and staff, and do not demonstrate the level of thoughtfulness and respect we expect at Harvard when engaging difficult issues within our community.” It is telling that such boorish and hateful actions require interpretation as to their appropriateness in Leftist institutions; so much for common sense and common decency.
Progressives in America and throughout the greater Western world have traveled down a slippery slope that includes a grotesque mixture of political correctness and bigotry. This dangerous path has been traveled before in the not-too-distant past and has led to very bad outcomes including Stalin’s and Mao’s butchering of their own people, sandwiched around fascism. We should not expect the Leftists to see the perversion within their ranks. That responsibility rests with middle America who has in recent times shown too much tolerance towards the Left’s bigotry.

Stacey Dash, a well-known actress who starred in Clueless, is on the receiving end of Left-wing attacks and bigotry. Her crime? This black woman dared to announce her endorsement of Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney. Ms. Dash recently Tweeted: “Vote for Romney. The only choice for your future. @mittromney @teamromney #mittromney #VOTE #voteromney.” Examples of the hateful responses are included below.
Even some in the mainstream media have been appalled by the treatment of Stacey Dash. CNN’s Piers Morgan this week had Ms. Dash on his show introducing her as “the most controversial woman in America” because “she had the audacity as a black actress to vote for Mitt Romney.” Morgan went on to say:
“When I read about this, I felt offended for you. I don’t have a horse in this race. I’m British. I can’t vote for anybody. But the idea that you as a black actress would come under such venomous attacks purely because you decided to vote for one of the two candidates is extremely objectionable.”
Dash, who voted for Obama in 2008, indicated that the President lost her support because of the “state of the country.”
The attacks on Stacey Dash are all too common of high-profile women, especially African-Americans, who dare to go against the liberal establishment. This is an ugly side of the radical Left that leans towards fascism.
