CNN host Anderson Cooper showed remarkable backbone and integrity last week when he took on MoveOn.org. During the interview with MoveOn’s Justin Ruben on AC 360 posted below, Cooper took the Leftist organization to task for deceptive advertising that portrayed the Republican Party as being against women’s health issues.
The tenuous connection that MoveOn used to portray Republicans as being anti-women relates to the debate in the Senate to extend the low-interest student loans. While the Republicans agreed to the extension, they demanded cuts in programs in the Health and Human Services Department to offset the required increased spending for students.
MoveOn’s advertisement parroted the talking points offered last week by House Democrat Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi who said:
“In order to pay for it, (Republicans) are going to make an assault on women’s health, make another assault on women’s health, continue our assault on women’s health and pay for this with prevention initiatives that are in effect right now for childhood immunization; for screening for breast cancer, for cervical cancer; and for initiatives to reduce birth defects – a large part of what the Center for Disease Control does in terms of prevention.”
Anderson Cooper correctly pointed out to MoveOn’s Ruben that the cuts were across the board, affecting men as well as women. Further, President Obama last year proposed similar cuts. As shown in the video, Ruben was unrepentant and continued the attack on Republicans. Like many Progressives, Ruben would not allow facts to get in the way MoveOn’s propaganda.
