Politico and other independent news organizations have reported on a story about President Obama’s daughter Melia that deserves further attention. According to reports, Melia, the Obama’s 13-year-old daughter, and 25 of her classmates took a spring break trip to Mexico. The story raises interesting questions including:
- The United States State Department has warned Americans against traveling to Mexico because of the drug cartels related dangers there. The First Family obviously has ignored the advice of their government.
- Irrespective of the dangers, why does any 13-year-old need/deserve a spring break trip to Mexico or any other exotic place?
- The trip reportedly required 25 Secret Service agents. Who paid for the costs involved?
It seems that the questions are not being lost on the White House. While this story initially was posted on the Huffington Post, the Telegraph, in other well known websites, they began disappearing from the sites shortly thereafter. The White House has since admitted that it was involved with the scrubbing with Michelle Obama’s Communications Director saying: ” From the beginning of the administration, the White House has asked news outlets not to report on or photograph the Obama children when they are not with their parents and there is no vital news interest. We have reminded outlets of this request in order to protect the privacy and security of these girls.” Translation, we are embarrassed by this episode.
The expensive vacations and special privileges given to the Obama’s are not unique to this First Family. Unfortunately the elitist mentality in Washington is quite widespread and not based on one’s political philosophies. It is, however, disingenuous for this president to continually instigate class warfare when he and his family so often demand treatment that only the wealthiest Americans can afford. Before asking other Americans to pay their fair share, he should set an example for cutting governmental costs and start acting like a servant of the people instead of royalty.

The Drudge Report posted a story that the First Lady may have broken Illinois state law. Casting her vote early, Michelle Obama engaged in political discussions at the polling place, a no-no under that State’s law.
According to fellow voter, electrician Dennis Campbell, “She was telling me how important it was to vote to keep her husband’s agenda going.” A pool reporter confirmed that the discussion took place inside the voting center. However, Illinois law states that: “No judge of election, pollwatcher, or other person shall, at any primary or election, do any electioneering or soliciting of votes or engage in any political discussion within any polling place [or] within 100 feet of any polling place.”
When Drudge Report questioned a State Board of Elections official, they were told that the First Lady may have erred because she did not know the law. Does say much for the Harvard Law School, does it?
Just imagine the shrieks from the press had the perpetrator been Mr. Palin campaigning for Sarah.

Some that view the video clip that follows and interpret Michelle Obama calling Kenya Barack Obama’s “home country” as proof that he was not born in the United States. Unfortunately, there is a worse interpretation. It is obvious that the first couple do not view themselves first as Americans. That is so sad.

In a recent speech on healthcare reform, President Obama again started the “blame game”. He blamed doctors for charging for unnecessary or overly expensive procedures. He blamed those that disagreed with his viewuniformed. Those were simply cheap political shots. While some unscrupulous doctors may take advantage of a patient for personal gain, they are in the minority. While some who protest the President’s nebulous plans for healthcare may be uniformed, most see a President who is out of touch with the wayAmericans think. Given the choice between ending up in a foxhole with a doctor or a politician, this is a no-brainer for me and I suspect most Americans.
There are plenty of causes for the increasing cost of medical care that include: Read the rest of this entry »
