Alaskan CBS-TV Affiliate Caught Trying to Damage Joe Miller Campaign

Posted by Steve Markowitz on November 1, 2010

Alaskan CBS-TV affiliate reporters thought that they had disconnected their telephone when leaving a message.  Instead, the voicemail recorded the conversations about how they might disrupt and discredit the Miller campaign to the benefit of write-in candidate Murkowski, old guard Republican.  The Murkowski brand has strong support in parts of the Alaskan media opposing Sarah Palin and her Tea Party candidates like Joe Miller.

Listen to the recording of these supposed journalists.  It is remarkable how far the old guard and their media friends will go to try to retain power.  It borders on criminal what has happened to our supposed independent press.

CBS’s Bob Schieffer Takes on Obama adviser David Axelrod

Posted by Steve Markowitz on October 11, 2010

This Blog posted various articles about the many Obama staffers jumping ship before the election carnage coming in a few weeks.  While this posting involves one of those leaving, Obama’s senior adviser David Axelrod, his departure is not
the issue.  Instead, it is the Leftist press also jumping off the Good-ship Obama that is the real story.

While the press has shielded Obama and associates from the tough questions in the past two years, that pass has obviously been rescinded and at a most in opportune time for the Democrats.  This past Sunday CBS’s Bob Schieffer on interviewed Axelrod on Face the Nation and questioned him about unsubstantiated charges by a liberals and Democrats that the Chamber of Commerce is using foreign money to support Republicans.  Here are some of Schieffer’s tough questions and comments, with the video posted below:

  • “Let’s switch to politics.  Last week, of course, the President’s on the campaign trail.  He’s on the campaign trail just virtually all the time now.”
  • “The New York Times looked into the Chamber specifically and said the Chamber really isn’t putting foreign money into the campaign.”
  • “This part about foreign money, that appears to be peanuts.”
  • “If the only charge, three weeks into the election that the Democrats can make is that there’s somehow this may or may not be foreign money coming into the campaign, is that the best you can do?”

At one point Schieffer asked what proof Axelrod had of the Chamber using foreign money to fund Republican candidates.  Axelrod responded: “Well, do you have any evidence that it’s not, Bob (Schieffer)?  Amazing.  The Obama team is so used to softball questions that they cannot even respond professionally when the real ones start.

Schieffer is not the only one in the media to take the Democrats to task on the issue of the Chamber of Commerce funds sources.  That bastion of Leftist media, New York Times, reported:

The issue of the Chamber’s funding first gained notice this week when ThinkProgress, a blog affiliated with the Center for American Progress, an influential liberal advocacy group, posted a lengthy piece with the headline “Exclusive: Foreign-Funded ‘U.S.’ Chamber of Commerce Running Partisan Attack Ads.”

The piece detailed the chamber’s overseas memberships, but it provided no evidence that the money generated overseas had been used in United States campaigns.  Still, liberal groups like MoveOn.org pounced on the allegations, resulting in protests at the chamber’s offices, a demand for a federal investigation by Senator Al Franken , Democrat of Minnesota, and ultimately the remarks by Mr. Obama himself.

While the mainstream media’s honeymoon with Obama was a relatively long one, they too are jumping form a sinking ship.

Reported Fired for Story Critical of Obama

Posted by Steve Markowitz on September 18, 2010

The mainstream media’s Leftist bias is one of the biggest outrages created by the Baby-Boomer generation.  What started as a dirty little secret within the “club” has become an open book.

The Washington Post reported this week on a story that adds color the sad disintegration of the once independent press.  WJLA-TV of the metro-Washington DC area fired anchorman Doug McKelway for a report critical of congressional Democrats and President Obama.  During a July Capitol Hill demonstration protesting the influence in Congress by the oil-industry, McKelway reported that the protesters “largely representing far-left environmental groups.”  He also stated that the protest “may be a risky strategy because the one man who has more campaign contributions from BP than anybody else in history is now sitting in the Oval Office, President Barack Obama, who accepted $77,051 in campaign contributions from BP.”

For McKelway’s indiscretion of reporting a negative story about the President and Democrats, this veteran reporter was fired.

An independent press is a key component of any democracy.  Without such independence, for example, it is likely that Nixon would not have been taken to task for Watergate.  The press’s lack of independence could have serious implications in our Country’s future.  Fortunately the new press and Internet make the mainstream media less relevant.

CNN Concerned with Media’s Bias to Democrats

Posted by Steve Markowitz on June 23, 2010

With the Barack Obama Presidency self-destructing, the media may be acquiring some conveniently timed conscience.  Maybe they too do not want to go down with the ship.

Howard Kurtz of CNN on Sunday remarkably stated that mainstream media “really blew it this week” with their lack of reporting on North Carolina Congressman Bob Etheridge’s attack on students, further stating:

  • Most treated it as intriguing footage or a good gossip item, but the guy went bonkers when approached by two young men with a video camera.”
  • Remember how the media went nuts over that tape of Republican Senator George Allen using the word ‘Macaca?‘”
  • By minimizing this footage of a Democratic congressman, most news organizations have enabled their critics to charge once again that they have a double standard“.

While Kurtz’s honesty is refreshing, the damage already done to the “independent” press by the current crop of commentators and reporters will be difficult to repair.  It is easier letting the Genie out of the bottle than putting it back in.  History will negatively judge the press for its partisan move to the Left and especially the pass that it gave a Community Organizer with no experience during his successful run for the White House.

Reid’s Racist Comments About Obama Draw Little Media Attention – Part II

Posted by Steve Markowitz on January 10, 2010

Less than two hours after this Blog posted the story of Harry Reid’s racist comments, I received a Breaking News story from the lame-stream media, CNN, posted below.  Was it about the Reid incident?  No, CNN has not deemed that important enough for a Breaking News story.  What’s more important to CNN was the announcement that Jay Leno’s TV time was changed.  And this from the media that has had the gall to question Sarah Palin’s IQ.  Case closed!

Sarah Palin: Why She Scares Liberal Elites

Posted by Steve Markowitz on November 23, 2009

The coverage that Sarah Palin has received in recent weeks is remarkable for a private citizen who holds no office.  While much of this publicity is due to her book tour for “Going Rogue“, a lot of the noise is being made by those who have a profound dislike for the woman.  Understanding what is behind this irrational reaction helps show insight into the American Left.

Let’s start with history.  Senator John McCain took a gamble when he chose newcomer Sarah Palin as his vice presidential running-mate.  While Palin was an instant success with conservatives, she just as quickly became the bane of liberals.  During the campaign Palin showed a lack of experience that presented itself in a few weak interviews with the press.

McCain lost the election and those on the left were almost gleeful at placing the blame at the feet of Palin.  That was undeserved.  With the economy heading rapidly south and a strong dislike of the Republican president, a Cocker Spaniel could have defeated any Republican ticket.

Two examples show a gross double standard that the Leftist media has taken with Sarah Palin involving experience and fact check. Read the rest of this entry »

SNL – An Attack on Mainstream Media

Posted by Steve Markowitz on October 8, 2009

fred-armisen-as-barack-obama-snl-skit-photosSaturday Night Live (SNL) ended the press’s honeymoon with Barrack Obama with its skit questioning the President’s record on fulfilling campaign promises.  Like every political SNL satire, it was a parody and caricature of the President, who was on the receiving end of their humor.

The skit itself was not memorable, especially when compared to some previous SNL political satire.  However, the reaction from the press has been remarkable with CNN going over the top.  CNN questioned the facts behind the skit.  Since when does comedy require “fact check”?  Where was CNN when Bush and Palin were the focus of SNL’s humor? The Independent Press – RIP

Posted by Steve Markowitz on August 22, 2009

R-I-P-gravestoneAn independent press is crucial for a strong democracy.  Unfortunately, this country’s mainstream news media has abdicated its independence.  The public’s acquiescence to this action is even of more concern to me.

As far back as I can remember, the mainstream news media has always been Left leaning.  However, up until recent years, the major networks have tried to maintain some semblance of independent journalism.  Those efforts are now gone.  The following are but a few examples of the blatant bias the networks now show: Read the rest of this entry »
