Obama Distorts Declaration of Independence

On September 15, 2010 President Obama spoke to the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.  In his closing remarks Obama quoted one of the most well known parts of the Declaration of Independence written by Thomas Jefferson that states:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.”

Below is a video of Obama’s version of this key part of the Declaration.  Besides the lecturing tone that is Barack Obama, noticeably absent from his quote was the phrase “by their Creator.”  The Declaration of Independence gave credit to God as the Creator who “endowed” all men with “certain inalienable rights…..”.  That is a fact of history and not subject to the politically correct whims of modern-day Progressives.

Progressives like President Obama are revisionists.  To them history is a tool to be manipulated to further a political agenda.

The Declaration of Independence was written by our forefathers to not only fight the tyranny of the day, but to help insure freedom for future Americans.  Those who attempt to distort history would do well to remember the words of Spanish-American philosopher George Santayana who said: “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”
