Senator Arlen Specter is emblematic of our elected officials in Washington. After being a Republican for his national political life, he joined the Democrats. Why? Not because of any deep-seated philosophical change. That might have been commendable, even if it took the Senator into his eighties for this metamorphosis. No, the good Senator made the change for blind ambition. You see Senator Specter determined that he could not win in his upcoming Republican primary and made the change in an effort to maintain power. These Washington elitists believe that they should maintain the benefits of their positions for life.
The Senator’s lack of loyalty and conviction is enough to disqualify him from public office. But, Specter offers additional reasons. Now he joins the knuckleheads that want to turn over healthcare to the Federal government. Why not; the government has done such a “good” job ruining the Post Office, Social Security, etc., let’s let them ruin healthcare too.
