White House Threatens Journalist Bob Woodward?

Posted by Steve Markowitz on March 3, 2013

Bob WoodwardPolitico published an email exchange between acclaimed Washington journalist Bob Woodward and Obama senior economic adviser Gene Sperling.  It reported that the exchange occurred after Sperling verbally blasted Woodward on his contention that President Obama was involved in creating the crisis of required federal budget cuts called sequestration.

In the exchange Sperling said to Woodward: “I know you may not believe this, but as a friend, I think you will regret staking out that claim.”  Woodward took this as a threat from the Administration, not surprisingly

The Obama Administration is acting more like Nixon’s.  This is in part because some in the press are beginning the press the Administration on substantive issues.  It is also because of a Caesar -type mentality exhibited by this President.  Journalist like Woodward will yearn for the days of Nixon when they could count on fellow journalists for support.
