Global Warming Stopped 16 Years Ago According to Scientific Data

Posted by Steve Markowitz on October 15, 2012

British publication MailOnline.com today published a report relating to recently released data on global warming.  This data brings into question the foundation of the theory behind carbon dioxide’s relationship to global warming, as well as the hysteria created by those who promote the theory.

The data accumulated from more than 3,000 measuring points throughout the world indicates that the 16-year global warming trend from 1980 through 1996, the foundation of the man-made global warming theory, stopped 16 years ago.  In other words the Earth’s temperature has not risen in the past 16 years.

Some scientists call the most recent 16-year temperature finding significant, while others do not give it much credence.  Professor Judith Curry, who heads Georgia Tech University’s Climate Science Department, indicates that the computer models used to predict future global temperature trends are seriously flawed stating:

  • ‘The new data confirms the existence of a pause in global warming.”
  • “Climate models are very complex, but they are imperfect and incomplete.  Natural variability [the impact of factors such as long-term temperature cycles in the oceans and the output of the sun] has been shown over the past two decades to have a magnitude that dominates the greenhouse warming effect.”
  • “It is becoming increasingly apparent that our attribution of warming since 1980 and future projections of climate change needs to consider natural internal variability as a factor of fundamental importance.”

On the other hand, Professor Phil Jones, of the Climatic Research Unit at the University of East Anglia, United Kingdom, now indicates that 16 years is too short a period to draw conclusions.  However, that was not his view in 2009 when he said: “Bottom line: the “no upward trend” has to continue for a total of 15 years before we get worried.”  With this kind of junk science it is no wonder that Prof. Jones got caught in Climategate scandal that included hiding emails that questioned the global warming alarmists’ theories and predictions.

Interestingly, even a zealot like Prof. Jones admits to problems with the modeling approach for predicting global temperatures stating: “We don’t fully understand how to input things like changes in the oceans, and because we don’t fully understand it you could say that natural variability is now working to suppress the warming.  We don’t know what natural variability is doing.”

The MailOnline.com article indicates that since 1880, when recording temperature readings worldwide began, the world’s temperature has increased only by about 0.75°C.  Given that global industrialization has been ongoing for about 130 years, this logically brings into question the singular supposed connection between global warming and man-made CO2emissions.

Whether or not the theories behind man-made global warming are correct is more than mere intellectual discussion.  Significant policy decisions are being made based on governments’ buying into the junk science.  Crony capitalism has led to some companies becoming wealthy while others get poorer.  More significantly, these decisions will increase commodity prices including staples such as energy and food.  Living conditions will deteriorate and increased starvation will occur in various poorer countries as a result.

The information just released that worldwide temperatures during the past 16 years have not increased demand reevaluation of green policies being pursued by Progressives worldwide.  This must begin by ending of the “book-burning” mentality that demonizes anyone who disagrees

  1. you want junk science? it is an entire article devoted to a topic without a single clickable reference from any climatologists to back up it’s content (using the dailymailonline is laughable to begin with). add to that an uncredited bogus graph chart that anyone could cook up in photoshop (void of any reference) and you have junk science.

While I appreciate the time you took to respond, your response could have been relevant had it read the original posting. You denigrate the posting, but offer no evidence to support your position.

Had you read the initial posting you would have seen that it quoted Professor Judith Curry, who heads Georgia Tech University’s Climate Science Department. Even more significant to a true believer like yourself is the quotes from Prof. Phil Jones of the Climatic Research Unit at the University of East Anglia, one of the fathers of the man-made global warming theories. Prof. Jones, unlike you, does not question the 16 year halt in global warming. He only questions its relevance.
It is clear that you are one of the proponents of e junk science that has led to crony capitalism at a level that matches that of the military-industrial complex during the Cold War.
