Mainstream Media’s Matt Lauer Disappointed by Obama’s Big Bird Advertisement

Posted by Steve Markowitz on October 10, 2012

There are increasing signs that the mainstream media has lost its infatuation with Barack Obama.  The most recent example NBC’s Matt Lauer’s interview with Obama campaign aide Robert Gibbs.

On the Today show, Lauer questioned Gibbs on a somewhat sarcastic advertisement that the Obama team put out relating to Big Bird.  The fowl’s connection with the campaign is tenuous at best, merely a comment Mitt Romney made during the debate with Pres. Obama indicating he would cut public funding to various organizations including PBS.  Lauer asked Gibbs: “I have to be honest with you, I personally was a bit surprised that the campaign released this Big Bird ad yesterday.  I mean, is that the kind of political ad that a campaign releases when it feels it has ideas and solutions on its side, or is that the kind of political ad a campaign releases when it simply wants to get attention?”  Lauer concluded by saying: “And I find it hard to believe I’m asking this question here this morning, but will the campaign take Bird Bird out of its ads?

Lauer’s confrontation with Gibbs is a further indication that some in the mainstream media are getting ready to throw the President under the bus.
