Paul Ryan Shows Civility in Strange Interview

Posted by Steve Markowitz on October 9, 2012

Republican vice presidential candidate, Paul Ryan, was recently ambushed in an interview by a WJRT reporter in Flint, Michigan.  The interview, posted below, was focusing on gun control and then took a bizarre turn as indicated in the following exchange:

Reporter – “Does this country have a gun problem?

Ryan – “This country has a crime problem.”

Reporter – “Not a gun problem?

Ryan – “The best thing to help prevent violent crime in the inner cities is to bring opportunity in the inner cities.  Is to help teach people good discipline, good character.  That is civil society.  That is what charities and civic groups and churches do to help one another make sure that they can realize the value in one another.”

Reporter – “And you can do all that by cutting taxes?  With a big tax cut?

Ryan – “Those are your words not mine.

Evidently, Ryan’s comments placing blame for crime on criminals and not the tools of a crime disturbed the Leftist reporter to the point where he not only deflected to a new question, but when adversarial on Ryan.  This has become a trademark of Progressives who are unwilling to have legitimate debate on serious issues plaguing our Country.  In addition, it is yet another example of the bias of the mainstream media.

The Obama campaign was quick to mischaracterize the Ryan–reporter encounter, stating in a press release: “Congressman Ryan brought both his temper and penchant for dishonesty to Michigan today.”  The video below shows how disingenuous this characterization is.

Given Romney’s powerful debate performance, as well as Obama’s poor showing, the Left’s false narrative about the character of Romney and Ryan is no longer selling to the electorate.  Should the Obama campaign continue down this path and ignore the issues of real concern to the American people, they will not only lose the presidential election, but do so by a landslide.
