Press Bias for Obama Versus Romney Blatant

Posted by Steve Markowitz on May 19, 2012

It is remarkable when the mainstream media denies its Leftist bias in general and in particular the bias for Barack Obama.

Last week the Washington Post published a story about a supposed episode of bullying by Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney that occurred 50-years ago when he was a teenager.  During the supposed incident, teenager Romney reportedly cut the fellow students long hair.  Feeling the heat of political correctness, Romney responded by indicating that he did not recall the incident, but nevertheless apologized for any “dumb things” he may have as a teenager.

Few adults went through their teenage years without some incident of dumbness.  Few could survive the ridiculous scrutiny that the Washington Post ha placed on Romney.  While Romney’s defensive response is understandable, it was inappropriate. Given he did not recall the incident he would have done the Country a favor indicating that lack of recall and chastising the Post for a type of biased scrutiny that it is still not given to Leftist Pres. Obama.

Pulitzer Prize-winning author and former New York Times reporter Judy Miller said it best during appearance on Fox News Watch saying: “Where are the comparable pieces about Barack Obama’s missing background?”  The answer is simple; the mainstream media was too busy fawning over Candidate Obama rather than doing its job of research and reporting.  The exchange between show host and Miller follows

John Scott: So where is the 5,000-word report on the President’s cocaine experimentation, for instance, when he was a teenager?

Judy Miller: Well that’s exactly right.  I mean, if we’re going to start looking at 50-year-old pranks or things that Mitt Romney may be embarrassed about now, you have to ask where are the comparable pieces about Barack Obama’s missing background?  Where is the law school period in New York?  Where are the string of girlfriends that he now doesn’t want to talk about?  And is that fair game?

You know what?  I don’t care what Mitt Romney or Barack Obama did when they were fifteen or seventeen or in law school.  I really don’t care.  I want to know where they stand now on the issues, and I think that’s what we should be concentrating on.  And frankly, I’m just puzzled by the Washington Post’s play to this story.

In additional, expressing concern about the Washington Post’s story, the older sister of the deceased John Lauber, the teenager Romney supposedly bullied, said of the Post’s report:  “Even if it did happen, John probably wouldn’t have said anything.  If he were still alive today, he would be furious [about the story].”  She further said: “The family of John Lauber is releasing a statement saying the portrayal of John is factually incorrect and we are aggrieved that he would be used to further a political agenda.”

The mainstream media did its best to bury the stories of Barack Obama’s cocaine usage as a youth and his association with racist Pastor Wright.  Shame on the mainstream media.  Shame on the American people for not calling the media on their bias.
