Jehmu Greene Plays Race Card

Posted by Steve Markowitz on May 6, 2012

Another Leftist has played the race card, this time commentator Jehmu Greene.  Greene was interviewed this week by Megyn Kelly on Fox News’s America Live along with Daily Caller’s Tucker Carlson.  The subject was Elizabeth Warren, the Senatorial candidate from Massachusetts who falsely claimed to be of Native American decent to advance her early career. This was the subject of this Blog’s May 3 posting titled Elizabeth Warren Used Dubious Minority Claim to Scam System.

Carlson correctly proffered the view that receiving special privileges, or for that matter disadvantage based on some fluke of one’s generic makeup is a perversion of what a free society should be.  Ms. Greene’s lame excuse for Warren’s dishonest behavior is a telling look into the liberal mind that rationalizes racism to further political aims.

The exchange between Carlson and Greene is included in the video below and includes:

Carlson – “Having a great grandparent who may or may not have been Native American is not a qualification.  Being 1/32nd some racial group is not a qualification, okay, it’s an accident of history.  It’s something over which you had no control and for which in a just society you would not be rewarded.  ……  It does provide a window into a system that is fundamentally corrupt, that rewards people based on their DNA which is inherently unfair.  It was unfair when it happened under segregation, and it’s unfair now.”

Greene – “To question this woman on her qualifications is going to be something that does appeal to folks like you, voters like you, bow-tying white boys.

When Carlson called Greene on the name calling she incredibly said: “I didn’t call you a name”.  Once again Greene has proven that lying in the name of a cause is acceptable Leftist behavior.

Mark Steyn of the National Review posted a piece title the Composite Americans that adds color to this perversion of a free society by the Left.  The title for Steyn’s posting emanates from Barack Obama’s book, Dreams from My Father, in which Obama discusses dating Composite Woman in his college days and her supposed struggles being a person of mixed races.

Steyn then ties the Left’s seemingly need for racial struggles to Massachusetts Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren, stating:

  • How does she know she’s a Cherokee maiden?  Well, she cites her grandfather’s “high cheekbones,” and says the Indian stuff is part of her family “lore.”  Which was evidently good enough for Harvard Lore School when they were looking to rack up a few affirmative-action credits.  …..  “Harvard Law School officials listed Warren as Native American in the ’90s, when the school was under fierce fire for their faculty’s lack of diversity.”
  • Martin Luther King dreamed of a day when men would be judged not on the color of their skin but on the content of their great-great-great-grandmother’s wedding-license application.  And now it’s here!  You can read all about it in Elizabeth Warren’s memoir of her struggles to come to terms with her racial identity, Dreams from My Great-Great-Great-Grandmother.
  • George Zimmerman, the son of a Peruvian mestiza, is the embodiment of endemic white racism and the reincarnation of Bull Connor, but Elizabeth Warren, the great-great-great-granddaughter of someone who might possibly have been listed as Cherokee on an application for a marriage license, is a heartwarming testimony to how minorities are shattering the glass ceiling in Harvard Yard.  …….  Under the Third Reich’s Nuremberg Laws, Ms. Warren would have been classified as Aryan and Mr. Zimmerman as non-Aryan.  Now it’s the other way round. Progress!
  • Coincidentally, the Equal Employment Opportunities Commission last week issued an “Enforcement Guidance” limiting the rights of employers to take into account the criminal convictions and arrest records of job applicants because of the “disparate impact” the consideration of such matters might have on minorities.  That’s great news, isn’t it?  So Harvard Law School can’t ask Elizabeth Warren if she’s ever held up a liquor store because, if they did, the faculty might be even less Cherokee than it is.

Some proffer the view that Progressives are well-intentioned, but misguided.  That conclusion is naïve.  It is actually much simpler if one merely follows the money.  The Left has created industries that have benefited to the tune of trillions of dollars making the disadvantaged wards of the state.  Ms. Warren is one who has benefited from this industry.

Perhaps the most remarkable aspect of the segment is that Ms. Greene forthrightly denied calling Carlson a name. This means either that the epithet does not sound like name-calling to her, or that it slipped out so readily that she didn’t even notice. As a thought experiment, Ms. Greene ought to consider the reaction if Mr. Carlson had referred to Louis Farrakhan (the man invariably referred to respectfully as “Minister Farrakhan” by President Obama) as a “bow-tying black boy.”
