Palestinian Gets Death Sentence for Selling Home to Jews

Posted by Steve Markowitz on April 23, 2012

The Weekly Standard today published a barbaric story concerning the Palestinian Authority.  A former Palestinian official, Muhammad Abu Shahala, has been sentenced to death.  His heinous crime?  He reportedly had the gall to sell his home to Jews.

According to the Standard, shortly after the Palestinian Authority was established in 1994, one of the first laws they adopted was to make selling land to Jews a capital offense.  Another example of Muslim tolerance?

Barack Obama and other Leftists have proffered the view over the years that the problems between the Israelis and Palestinians would disappear if only both sides would sit down and talk.  How naïve.  The Palestinians and other Arab governments have been preaching anti-Semitism for decades.  They have raised their children filled with hate and bigotry.  Such hatred as deep-seated within their culture cannot be negotiated away.

Should the Palestinian Authority execute Abu Shahala, he will become another statistic added to the death side of the ledger by a corrupt and brutal Arab government.  How many innocents must die at the hands of these despots before the Arab masses get it?

Krauthammer Attacks Obama’s ‘Buffett Rule’

Posted by Steve Markowitz on April 23, 2012

One of the brightest and most articulate voices on the Right is that of Charles Krauthammer, commentator and columnist.  Krauthammer has called Pres. Obama on many of his flawed policies.  This weekend he went ballistic on Obama’s “Buffett Rule” with the following statements:

  • “A shiny object.”
  • “It’s almost an embarrassment, it’s so shameless.  If you were to collect the Buffett tax for the next 250 years – that’s longer than the life of this republic – you will not have covered the deficit, Obama’s deficit for 2011.  You collect it for another 250 years, so we’re now in the year 2612, and you’ve covered 2011 and 2012 and you need to cover only 498 other years of deficits.”
  • “This is a preposterous statement and he know it is,” Krauthammer continued. “On growth, it’s equally deceptive.  What the tax is, it’s a doubling of the capital gains tax.  It’s disguised, but that’s the reason why the Buffett rates are lower, it‘s the capital gains rate and it’s lower than the rate for normal income.  So he doubles it.  Now the reason that’s not a good idea is because when you double the rate, you actually decrease the amount that the Treasury receives.  And you decrease the growth because you are shrinking the pool of capital that’s out there that people can invest and hire other people.”

As Krauthammer points out, the Buffett Rule will result in a doubling of the capital gains tax.  History is proven how disastrous such actions have been to the overall economy.  However, that is of little concern to Barack Obama who has stated that raising this tax rate has been a priority of his “for purposes of fairness”.

It is remarkable how Progressives cannot grasp the concept of the overall good.  As Winston Churchill once so famously said: “Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.”  Obama’s is doing his best to prove Churchill correct.

Obama Mimicking Nixon

Posted by Steve Markowitz on April 23, 2012

This Blog has previously proffered the view that President Barack Obama shows similarities to some rather distasteful characteristics of President Richard Nixon.  This subject was included a posting dated October 26, 2010 titled Obama, Like Nixon, Calls Political Opponents “Enemies.  This past weekend, columnist Jeff Jacoby of the Boston Globe wrote a piece with the same conclusion.

Jacoby reminds us that during 1968 presidential campaign, Nixon used a slogan “Bring us Together“.  After being elected, Nixon showed a darker side that included using VP Spiro Agnew as his attack dog, dirty tricks, plumbers, and similar to Obama, had an enemies list.

Barack Obama campaigned on the promise of bringing red and blue states together and to take us to a post-racial society.  His eloquent words included: “Let us resist the temptation to fall back on the same partisanship and pettiness and immaturity that has poisoned our politics for so long.”  Like Nixon, these words were hollow.  When it comes to race, class, party affiliation and more, Obama has broken Americans into opposing subsets.  Jacoby points to examples that include the following Obamaisms:

  • Let’s have dirtier air, dirtier water, less people with health insurance” referring to Republican proposals.
  • Punish our enemies and … reward our friends” in and Obama speech to Latino voters.
  • I wasn’t born with a silver spoon in my mouth“, stoking the flames of class warfare.

Obama supporters can claim many things about the President they elected.  Two attributes they cannot claim are unifier or bipartisanship.
