Congressional Tax Cheats in Sen. Brown’s Crosshairs

Posted by Steve Markowitz on April 17, 2012

The AP in Boston published an article  titled Sen. Brown: Bill targets tax scofflaws in Congress that reviews one senator’s efforts to go after tax dodgers working for the federal government.  United States Sen. Scott Brown of Massachusetts is trying to get a bill passed that would allow the IRS to be will aggressive with government employees who are not paying their US federal taxes.

Sen. Brown referred to in IRS report that indicated during 2010 nearly 100,000 federal employees owed back taxes in excess of $1 billion.  Incredibly, included in this group are US senators and their employees who owe over $2 million in taxes.

This Blog applauds Sen. Brown’s efforts.  At the same time we ask where is President Obama on this issue given his call for Americans to pay their “fair share”?  Today, the President’s Democrat Party attempted to pass the so-called “Buffett rule” in the Senate that would raise taxes on wealthier Americans.  It would seem appropriate to first get their own house in order.  Now there’s some real hope and change!
